Research Scientist (Single Cell and Spatial Sequencing), Technology Innovation Lab
The Technology Innovation Lab at the New York Genome Center seeks a dynamic, self-motivated, team-oriented Research Scientist to expand wet lab efforts in understanding disease mechanisms. We are interested in developing, optimizing, and applying novel single-cell, CRISPR-Cas and spatial multi-omics methods to determine the role of epigenetic landscapes in phenotypic plasticity and therapeutic responses in colorectal cancer. This position will report to Dr. Sanja Vickovic, Director of the Technology Innovation lab and Core Faculty at NYGC.
Responsibilities may include:
- Conceptualizing novel single-cell and spatial multi-omic measurement methods for correlating phenotypes with epigenetic landscape;
- Planning, designing, and executing experiments to evaluate, develop, optimize, and troubleshoot novel and established single-cell and spatial multi-omic measurement methods;
- Applying these methods and CRISPR screen technologies to generate diverse data sets to correlate phenotypes with epigenetic landscape and understand the role of epigenetic landscape in determining phenotypic plasticity and therapeutic response;
- Preparing and performing assays on tissue and/or cell or nuclei suspensions using various single cell and spatial methods, such as CITE-Seq, snRNA-Seq, 10X Multiome, ASAP-Seq, 10X Visium, CUT&Tag, CRISPR screening etc.;
- Maintaining detailed, reliable, and timely laboratory records;
- Developing collaborations NYGC participants and other research partners;
- Documenting and presenting progress and results in written or oral reports to other lab members and the scientific community at large;
- Preparation of manuscripts and external presentations;
- Participation in grant writing and proposal development.
- Share expertise and provide training and guidance to group members as needed.
- A minimum of a Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology, or related discipline required;
- 2+ years of postdoctoral training preferred;
- Strong publication track record required with at least 2 first author papers;
- In-depth conceptual or technical understanding of modern high-throughput molecular technologies in the life sciences (scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, CRISPR-Cas) required;
- Strong oral and written communication, data documentation, and presentation skills required;
- Experience writing scientific articles for publication required;
- Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time required; and,
- Excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills, and willingness to work in a fast-paced team environment required.

The pay range for this position is $95,500-115,000 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, NYGC offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits as well as generous time off.
About the Technology Innovation Lab
The Technology Innovation Lab at the New York Genome Center (NYGC) is led by Dr. Sanja Vickovic, who holds a joint faculty appointment in Columbia University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. The Technology Innovation lab is a dedicated incubator for the development and early-stage evaluation of new genomics tools and methodologies. It serves as a creative hub for generating new technologies, protocol development, equipment evaluation and informatics tool development/integration. Although the focus of the lab is constantly evolving due to the fast-paced advancement of genomic technologies, it is committed to developing technologies with the potential to advance research for the wider scientific community, including the recent advancements listed below. A few examples of current and past areas of research include: Spatial Transcriptomics and Spatial Multi-Omics, ECCITE-seq, Cell Hashing and CITE-seq.
About the New York Genome Center
The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. NYGC concentrates specifically on disease-based research in the following areas: neuropsychiatric disease (autism, schizophrenia, bipolar); neurodegenerative disease (ALS, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s), and cancer.
