POSITION TITLE: Supplemental - Math Tutor
REPORTS TO: Program Manager, Tutorial Services
EXPECTED STARTING SALARY: $14.00 - $16.00/hourly, depending on experience
ANTICIPATED START DATE: Fall 2022 Semester
This position will help students with Math to expand basic skills, increase self-confidence through successful experiences, develop study skills and increase the effectiveness of their efforts, reinforce your own knowledge, enhance your ability to communicate and relate to others.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES, AND LICENSES
- Have earned a 3.5 or 4.0 in courses that they are tutoring
- Have an overall 3.0 GPA
- Completed college-level Math courses through Calculus 1
- Must submit 2 instructor recommendations for hiring
- Exhibit good communication skills
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)
- Provide tutorial assistance to students requesting services
- Keep accurate and valid records of sessions with students
- Assist students with their questions on content material
- Assist students in developing good study skills and habits
- Be prepared, present, and punctual for each session
- Consult with students' instructor if necessary
- Support faculty as the primary source of course information (be professional but not the professor)
- Provide reports for each student
- Be knowledgeable about academic and study aids available in the Tutoring Center and in the Student Success Center
- Provide documentation of tutoring services to the office to verify sessions and to monitor student progress
- Inform coordinator of any problem situations
- Keep an accurate and validated record of your tutoring time and submit the timesheet at the end of each pay period
- Attend all training sessions
- Adhere to the tutorial policies, which have been established in accordance with the college, federal and state guidelines

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
All supplemental employees are required to be part of the Michigan Public Schools Employee Retirement System (MPSERS) and are eligible for paid sick leave.
This position will work part-time (maximum of 28 hours per week).
