POSITION TITLE: Supplemental – Student Success Coach
DEPARTMENT: Student Success Center, Learning Services
REPORTS TO: Student Success Coordinator
EXPECTED STARTING SALARY: $16.00/hourly
The Student Success Coach will provide academic support to students in the areas of technology, time management, organization, study skills, goal setting, executive functioning, and other non-cognitive areas. Coaches will assist with the development and presentation of Student Success Center programming and events and work with the Coordinator for Student Success on various tasks as assigned. The successful individual will have the ability to perform complex tasks, knowledge of basic academic skills and strategies, the ability to maintain detailed records, familiarity with online learning platforms, and a desire to help students overcome academic challenges. Candidates should have the patience to work with a wide variety of students with both a sense of humor and compassion.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES, AND LICENSES
- One year of post-secondary education plus two years related work experience
- Associate’s degree in a related area plus two years related work experience
- Ability to organize and prioritize work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience using Microsoft Office software (e.g. Microsoft Word®, Excel®, Power Point®)
- Experience using Google Apps and video communication tools (i.e. Google Hangouts or Zoom)
- Experience keeping and interpreting accurate, detailed data and information for reports
- Experience with online learning, either as an instructor or student
- Bachelor’s degree in a related area plus one year related work experience
- Experience in academic support
- Experience working with low-income, first-generation, and minority students
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)
Supports Student Learning
- Assists students with the development of academic success and technological skills
- Provides students with information on Student Success Center guidelines and policies for computer usage and enforces these policies
- Checks out and maintains equipment and supplies
- Develops and implements e-mentoring and social media strategies to maintain positive relationships and effective communication with students.
- Assists students in solving problems through discussion. Provides referral to appropriate College staff, to a counselor, to an advisor, or to an outside agency, as appropriate
Center Team Responsibilities
- Provides customer service by receiving calls and greeting students with a friendly welcome, information, and direction
- Maintains a clean, orderly environment for the students using the Center
- Answer multi-line telephones
- Create, update and maintain files as delegated by the Coordinator
- Copy, scan, e-mail, and file documents
- Respond to requests for information, exercising discretion in obtaining and providing factual and confidential information related to office and College operations
- Type correspondence and other documents in Microsoft Word or Google Docs®
- Spreadsheet creation and data entry in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets®
- Perform data entry and run reports as needed
- May be cross-trained to proctor exams for the Testing Center
- Completes projects assigned by Coordinator and/or Director

To perform this job successfully, an individual will have computer skills, including knowledge of and the ability to use the Internet, email, scheduling software, video communication platforms, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

All supplemental employees are required to be part of the Michigan Public Schools Employee Retirement System (MPSERS) and are eligible for paid sick leave.
This position will work part-time (maximum of 28 hours per week). The hours are flexible with the expectation of some nights/weekends. This position offers the possibility of a hybrid work environment.
