Position Description
Assistant Controller
Experience & Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 5+ years finance experience. CPA license is a plus but not required.
- Background and general knowledge of accounting principles.
Essential Job Functions:
- Preparation of various internal financial statements and external regulatory reports.
- Assist with external audits and controls.
- Prepare and or review general ledger accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of the budget and forecasts.
- Prepare and process month end accruals.
- Assist in the preparation of the allowance for credit loss (CECL)
- Assists the Controller and CFO in the direction of the accounting functions of the organization.
- Manages operational data and maintains data accuracy and integrity.
- Reviews financial data periodically to ensure fairness and completeness of the data.
- Develops proper operational, data documentation and troubleshooting procedures.
- Evaluates workflow processes and procedures to develop, recommend and implement procedural and system changes to increase accuracy and efficiencies.
Required knowledge, skills & abilities:
- Superior knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and accounting activities.
- Excellent organizational, communication and financial management skills and the ability to prioritize.
- Strong numerical proficiency, good problem solving skills and excellent use of logic.
- Ability to motivate, develop and manage a team and establish goals for the department.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work closely with the senior management team.
- Ability to articulate financial concepts and requirements to non-financial audiences.
- Moderate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications is required. Experience with accounting software (i.e. Oracle, Prologue, automate Accounts Payable) is preferred.
- Understanding of internal controls with FDICIA experience preferred but not required.
- Understanding of and experience with the Call Report preferred but not required.
- Compliance with BSA regulations as appropriate to the position.
