Muskegon Community College is a center for lifelong learning that helps people attain their educational goals by offering programs that respond to individual, community, and global needs. MCC is an associate degree-granting institution of higher education and an applied technology leader for high-tech, hands-on training.

 

With nearly a 100-year history of academic excellence, MCC is a public community college accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. With robust student success support, free tutoring, 18 athletic teams, events, clubs, and activities, MCC has an annual, full-time equated student enrollment of approximately 2,300 and an unduplicated headcount of 5,100.

 

Most recently, Muskegon Community College outranked all other colleges in Michigan for the rate of students who received federal financial aid and then transferred to continue their education at a four-year institution. The college’s transfer-out rate was the highest in Michigan, 7 percentage points above the state average, and outpaced the average transfer rate across the nation. MCC is nationally recognized for its liberal arts and occupational programs. 

 

The College has an annual operating budget (general fund) of $44 million and employs about 210 regular full and part-time staff and many adjunct faculty and student assistants. The College also offers 56 Associate degree programs and 29 certificate programs.  

 

The main campus is located on a 111-acre campus in Muskegon which includes the Hendrik Meijer Library & Information Technology Center, Bartels-Rode Gymnasium, Frauenthal Foundation Fine Arts Center (including the Overbrook Theater and Art Gallery), Stevenson Center for Higher Education, the Science Center, the Health and Wellness Center, and the Art & Music Center.  

 

Muskegon Community College also operates the Sturrus Technology Center and Fab Lab in downtown Muskegon andextension centers in Ottawa and Newaygo Counties.

General Description: 

Make a positive first impression with prospective students, parents, school officials and community members as you work to build relationships that encourage student enrollment in higher education. Generating leads and creating an extraordinary experience for prospective students and families. This will include conducting fun and engaging campus tours, and encouraging completion of the application process with your strong motivational skills. Assisting students with the enrollment process by providing admissions and financial aid information; serving as the first point of contact for prospective students and building relationship with those that have applied to the college to encourage enrollment; execute the college’s tactical and strategic enrollment plans with high school students, students at the alternative and adult education centers and at workforce development centers. Assist with community and recruitment events.

Salary Range: up to $45,000 depending on experience

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  1. Associate Degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  1. Demonstrated effective & professional written, oral and presentation communication skills with both internal and external audiences both one on one and in large group settings. 
  1. Experience working with a CRM (customer relationship management) system preferred 
  1. High proficiency in demonstration of office technology, software, & equipment. Ability and willingness to upgrade skills including technology or process changes. 
  1. Demonstrated ability to relate to people of all ages, races, and social-economic backgrounds. 
  1. Energetic, motivated results-oriented sales experience preferred. 
  1. Demonstrated use of tact, judgment and discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality. 
  1. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a successful team while accomplishing tasks and assignments without assistance, even while multi-tasking. 
  1. Ability to navigate through all areas of campus including Gymnasium and Art Building, while delivering an informative and entertaining message to potential students, families, and guests. 
  1. Highly motivated and solution oriented with a high degree of integrity, ethics and dedication to the mission of the College. 
  1. Demonstrated ability to create a warm, welcoming environment to students, parents, faculty/staff and community members especially during busy/chaotic times. 
  1. Demonstrated proficiency with admissions, financial aid and registration policies & procedures. 
  1. Must be adaptable and flexible to changes in tasks, processes and locations. 
  1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing, keyboarding and work on computer (hand/eye strain), speaking in English via phone, on Zoom or in person.   
  1. Evening and occasional weekend hours are required. 
  1. Valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation to and from area schools or off campus appointments. 
  1. Bilingual skills preferred- Spanish.

Essential Function: 

  1. Assist incoming and currently enrolled students with admissions and financial aid processes. 
  1. Generate admission leads through personal and professional contacts, community/corporate partnerships, current students, alumni, and other lead generation initiatives. 
  1. Meet/contact prospective new students and recruit at various locations including but not limited to the following areas: high schools, skill centers, adult education, alternative education and workforce development sites. 
  1. Develop and maintain prospect and applicant database and Recruit software for use with mail, email, and telephone campaigns. Will include system data entry and documentation. 
  1. Work with students to successfully complete the application process, including receipt of all required documentation for admission. 
  1. Process all international student applications, ensuring all required documentation is collected. 
  1. May serve as the Designated School Official for the College with SEVIS. 
  1. Assist students with FAFSA applications and scholarship opportunities.  
  1. Follow up with potential students to check on all stages of their entry to the institution and document as appropriate in system. 
  1. Plan, implement and follow up on outreach targeting college age and non-traditional adult learners; Focus special efforts at low-income and racially diverse audiences to increase college access from these underrepresented populations. 
  1. Serve on a variety of college and external committees as related to the recruitment, academic preparation and retention of college students. 
  1. Plan and help with a variety of college and community recruitment events.  This includes planning, making reservations, sending out invitations, setting up and/or working the event.   
  1. Other duties as assigned.
