I. POSITION SUMMARY
The position ensures accurate consumer billing by timely reading of member meters. Processes reconnects, disconnects, change-outs, trouble orders in accordance with established policies.
II. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
A. Reports to: Meter Services Manager
III. RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITIES
A. Reads residential and commercial meters on assigned route as needed. Verifies meter number, reading of dials, multiplier, if applicable, status of account, rate class and location.
B. Completes connect, disconnect and reconnect orders, meter changes, general service orders, TWACS and non-pay orders.
C. Responds to member questions and reports service problems to appropriate cooperative personnel.
D. Installs, reconnects and disconnects Remote Disconnect Collars (RDC).
E. Performs read-out, read-in meters for out-going and incoming accounts.
F. Inspects existing service facilities to determine unauthorized connections, investigates and reports irregularities to the appropriate Magic Valley personnel. Takes necessary corrective action as directed.
G. Inspects meters, loops and service wires for any hazardous condition and reports to appropriate supervisor.
H. Assumes responsibility for vehicle, tools and equipment assigned. Maintains vehicle and makes sure that vehicle is stocked with proper material.
I. Assists Lineman in restoring electric service while on-call.
J. Observes all safety rules.

The Meter Service Technician shall be required to perform any other duties assigned in order to fulfill the objectives of the Cooperative.

A. Member-Consumers: To maintain courteous and cooperative relations that create good will.
B. General Public: Maintains good relations in all contacts.
Required Skills
Equipment Operated: Position utilizes hand-held electronic meter reading devices. Use radio communication equipment in accordance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations. Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license.
Abilities and Skills: Must be able communicate orally and deal with a variety of people in different circumstances. Must have basic knowledge of and efficiency in mathematics. Must have the ability to read and write.
Physical Effort: Position requires a significant amount of time in vehicle and entering and exiting vehicle. Activities require walking and crossing uneven terrain. Some climbing to gain access to meters may be required.
Working Conditions: Outside work in varying weather conditions. Some overtime and irregular hours may be required which may include working nights, stand-by, on-call, weekends, and holidays.
After an offer of employment has been made, a physical examination will be required which will include both drug and alcohol testing.
Required Experience
Job Knowledge, Training, and Experience: This position must complete paperwork and reports with a high degree of accuracy. Must be able to read and interpret system maps. Some experience in public contact position preferred. Must have three to five years experience in reading meters, handling delinquent accounts, and dealing with the public. Must be able to learn cooperative collections policies and procedures, safety rules and regulations as well as system geography within a reasonable time span. Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
