Sr IT Solutions Engineer

Job Purpose

The Sr IT Systems Engineer will join a dynamic Tungsten Automation IT systems team and play a vital role in optimizing our company’s VMware architecture and infrastructure. You’ll work closely with other engineers to deploy and manage VMware applications, integrate virtual servers, and provide essential support. Your expertise will contribute to the successful implementation of VMware products across multiple data centers. The expertise of this crucial role in virtualization, storage, and infrastructure technologies will be essential for ensuring seamless operations and optimal environment performance. This role will also schedule and direct activities to improve or resolve Server and/or user-related problems in a timely and accurate fashion. Sr. IT Systems Engineers may be involved in routine upgrades and application support as well as root cause and post-mortem analyses around security incidents and service interruptions.

As a Sr. IT Systems Engineer, you will be able to operate independently, though typically working as part of a team with varying skill sets.

Key Responsibilities

• Deploying and managing vSphere environments.
• Integrating and configuring vCenter for centralized management.
• Automation and orchestration using the VMWare Aira suite.
• Creating and maintaining clusters for high availability and performance. This includes compute with backend SAN storage and Hyperconverged infra with Dell VxRail.
• Configuring virtual switches to optimize network traffic within VMware environments.
• Provisioning, deploying, presenting, and reclaiming datastores.
• Monitoring and optimizing storage resources.
• Developing and managing deployment, reporting, and project solutions using scripting languages (e.g., Python).
• Contributing to the design and implementation of technology solutions based on VMware products.
• Troubleshooting and resolving VMware environment issues.
• Providing technical support and documenting VMware processes.
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to resolve urgent VMware environment problems outside of regular business hours.
• Optimize resource allocation and performance within virtual environments.
• Configure and maintain enterprise storage solutions, including fiber channel and SAN/NAS systems.
• Monitor storage capacity, performance, and redundancy.
• Collaborate with the security team to implement and maintain security best practices.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, network engineers, and other systems engineers.
• Document system configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Provide technical support to end-users and resolve escalated issues.
• Support and maintain the server infrastructure.
• Collaborate with the local IT staff in every country in support of business-critical systems and applications.
• Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure proper support for local staff.
• Manage and set priorities for the design, implementation, maintenance and improvement of the infrastructure Systems.
• Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and local IT Managers regarding pertinent infrastructure activities.
• Assist with the planning and deployment of Server hardening security measures.
• Opens and manages vendor problem tickets to resolution.
• Drives the production of in-house documentation around solutions.
• Monitors tools and proactively helps teams struggling with systems issues.
• Provides application support for software running in production.
• Creates scripts and tools that drive automation and enable product teams and end users to move towards self-service.

• Extensive knowledge of VMware and related technologies: vCenter, vSphere, vSAN, NSX, AVI, Skyline, Aria suite.
• Understanding of Active Directory and all components.
• VMware Tanzu a plus
• Hyperconverged infra. E.g. Dell VxRail
• Proficiency in VMware-associated programs and coding languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell).
• Hands-on experience in troubleshooting hardware.
• Exceptional knowledge of service and application delivery, as well as successful service level agreement accomplishments.
• Ability to make sound and logical judgments.
• Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Able to conduct research into issues and products as required.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
• Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language.

• Some Travel required on a per project basis. (Up to approximately 10-15%)

• Four-year university degree or college diploma in the field of computer science and/or 8 years equivalent work experience.
• VMware VCP Certification preferred.
•  8+ year experience managing and delivering infrastructure design and operational excellence.
• The ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
