Job Summary
The Plant Engineering Tech is responsible for providing engineering support for all aspects of the design process. This role will engage in research and design activities, providing technical counsel to others within the organization to ensure the highest levels of product functionality, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction, thereby enabling KPS Global to meet its organizational goals and business objectives.
Major Responsibilities
- Assisting with the development of product design and functionality, addressing customer requirements and specifications
- Manipulating KPS design systems to produce basic and custom drawings and reports.
- Creating drawings for production shop drawings, including panel details, accessory lists, and bills of materials; details include all views and dimensions necessary to manufacture specific projects.
- Maintaining and growing communications between operating areas within KPS Global, including your specific team, other teams, inside sales/quotations, purchasing, scheduling, and manufacturing.
- Reviewing, documenting, and maintaining required product design standards used in daily operational activities including Product Design Standards (PDS) and Engineering Change Notifications (ECN)
- Identifying and recommending corrective action for any issues with product design
- Analyzing elements of design & production processes and assessing feasibility and effectiveness; making appropriate recommendations to management
- Interfacing others within the organization, as well as customers, to jointly identify customer needs and feasible solutions.
- Providing manufacturing support to ensure the product to be fabricated and assembled based on the intended functionality and application of the design; gives guidance on prototype assemblies as well.
- Conducting yourself in accordance with the Company Code of Ethics policy at all times
Required Skills
- Technical writing background and building code familiarity preferred
- Intermediate level skills in MS Office programs (Excel, Word Etc.)
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, speaking, writing, and math skills
- Strong project management skills and the ability to interpret test results, think analytically, and have a pervasive level of knowledge regarding the limitations and applications of the product
- Ability to meet commitments and respond promptly to customer needs
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit for a significant portion of the work day
- Must be able to talk, hear, and use hands to handle and feel for the majority of the work day
- Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed
- Must be able to reach with hands or arms
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. independently
Required Experience
- An associate degree in Design Engineering or related field is preferred, with preference given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree
- 2 - 5 years of relevant experience
- Proven experience with Autodesk Inventor/AutoCAD or 3D modeling for assembly design (architectural drafting applicability of the software is preferred).
- Ability to conceptualize 2D and 3D forms/shapes, read blueprints, and do calculations dealing with geometry and trigonometry.
- Familiarity with electrical wiring diagrams and a basic understanding of a manufacturing environment
- Comfortable with engineering terminology and an ability to do geometric and trigonometric calculations and read blueprints
- Some knowledge of carpentry/construction preferred in addition to a basic understanding of properties of steel, wood, and urethane
- Proven ability to take a total quality approach to all work and service opportunities
- Demonstrates safety awareness and commitment to associate safety
