Decontaminates reusable medical supplies and equipment, using appropriate methods.
Disassembles, cleans, sterilizes, and reassembles equipment.
Inspects items for gross contamination after pre-sterilization.
Prepares trays and sets.
Packages items to protect points, cutting edges, and delicate instruments and to ensure effective penetration medium.
Selects appropriate methods for sterilizing.
Loads, unloads, and operates sterilizers and other related equipment.
Periodically tests equipment for effectiveness and absolute sterilization.
Adheres to recommended parameters for each sterilizer and records chemical, mechanical, and biological results and informs supervisor of any positive test results.
Tests, cleans, sterilizes, stores, issues, and explains proper use of equipment.
Inspects sterilized items for indication of proper sterilization, labels items to show sterilization data, stores items to preserve sterile conditions.
Fills requests for items based on daily schedules of on individual requisitions.
Restock Crash Carts, ensuring 100% compliance with established policies and inventory control.
Performs periodic inspections as directed by schedule cyclic maintenance program.
Exchanges Crash Cart immediately after notification of a Code E or other use to include cleanup, restock and sterilization of used cart.
Assists in the inventory of patient care charges.
Fill requisitions after normal duty hours.
They will act as a primary scrub person who handles the instruments, supplies and equipment utilized for surgical procedures. They will anticipate the needs of the surgeon and has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure. Has an understanding of the procedure being performed and is in constant observation for maintenance policies and procedures. They will provide daily cleaning and stocking of the O.R. and records the temperature and humidity of the O.R. daily.
When not assisting with surgical cases, the scrub tech will work as patient care aide on the PP unit. These duties include ADL's: bathing the patient, oral care, linen changing, ambulation, peri-care, passing trays, TCDB of surgical patients, obtaining vital signs, I&O, Foley care and application and removal of SCD hoses. They will also assists in the nursery with passing of Newborn babies, folding linen and stocking cribs, and feeding babies. They will have knowledge of "CODE B" policy/procedure and is aware of their role in and actual Code Pink Drill.
The scrub tech will assist in Labor and Delivery area will assist in Labor and Delivery with setting up sterile tables and cleaning instruments after deliveries. Assures Hourly Rounding with Intention is done on the patients Q1-2 hours on the PP floor utilizing "Aidet" to ensure safety and quality patient care. Also provides hand-off communication to the on-coming scrub tech.
Required Skills
Minimum Education: Graduate from accredited school of Surgical Technology
Required Licenses: Certified Surgical Technologist
Must be nationally certified as a Certified Surgical Technologist and BLS certification is required.
Required Experience
Minimum Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year of Surgical experience is encouraged.
