POSITION SUMMARY:

Jennie Stuart Health is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a full-time, regular Staff Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join an organization that continues to grow and expand to keep up with the ever-changing healthcare environment.

The Staff Accountant role is integral to our finance department, providing critical support in managing the financial health of our organization. As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks, including preparing journal entries, maintaining balance sheet schedules, ledger accounts, and bank reconciliations. You will also assist in monthly closings and account analysis while ensuring that our company's accounting procedures comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Your role will also include providing financial analysis and support to various departments within the organization, helping them to make informed business decisions. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. You will be expected to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance department and participate in special projects as required. This position reports directly to the Controller and will work closely with other members of the finance team to ensure the smooth operation of the department. As a Staff Accountant at Jennie Stuart Health, you will play a key role in upholding the financial integrity and transparency that our patients, staff, and community rely on. You will also demonstrate knowledge and commitment to the organization's mission, vision, values, and goals through leadership of assigned functions and participations in a wide variety of organizational activities. This is an at-will position with an annual salary, and no per diem is offered.

Essential Functions:

1. Assisting the Controller in all aspects and direction of the accounting department of JSH.

2. Following system controls for ensuring data integrity. Preventing inaccuracies in financial statements by following internal control systems and policies for financial reporting.

3. Prepare and maintain audit work papers.

4. Developing proper operational, data documentation, and troubleshooting procedures.

5. Compile financial information to prepare monthly journal entries. Assist in meeting, developing, and improving the monthly closing schedule. Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness. Resolve accounting discrepancies as needed.

6. Prepare balance sheet and bank account reconciliations.

7. Reconcile and maintain fixed asset system. Assist with construction project worksheets, ledgers, and reports through the life of the project. Maintain detailed reports supporting all CIP projects.

8. Assist in monthly variance analysis to identify areas of expense reduction and cost containment.

9. Assist in the preparation of the annual cost reports, interim audit, annual audit, and annual 990 processes.

10. Assist with Quarterly 941, W-2, and 1099 – preparation and reconciliation.

11. Provide assistance and backup to accounts payable and payroll as needed.

12. Maintain strict confidentiality and follow HIPAA standards.

13. All other duties as assigned.


Required Skills

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an Accredited college required.
  • CPA, MBA, or MS preferred, but not required.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Demonstrated leadership knowledge and skills, good interpersonal skills, ability to handle a complex assortment of tasks in an organized manner.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to work with time constraints and work well with others.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement in accounting processes

 


Required Experience

Minimum Work Experience

·         Minimum 2+ years relevant accounting experience required, payroll processing, and health care experience preferred.
