Jennie Stuart Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavioral Health Unit Registered Nurse to join our team at the JSH Medical Center. This full-time, regular/at-will position is integral to our commitment to providing exceptional care to patients with mental health conditions. As a Behavioral Health Unit Registered Nurse, you will work under the direction of the Clinical Nurse Manager and be responsible for delivering nursing care in line with departmental and hospital policies and procedures. Your role will include administering and recording medication, maintaining IV access, assessing and documenting patient conditions, and implementing changes in the plan of care. You will be expected to ensure patient orientation to the unit, address identified problems, and maintain accurate records, including flow sheets, I&O sheets, and medication administration records. Your vigilance in reporting changes in patient status and progress in response to the teaching plan is crucial. You will also be responsible for practicing within the legal boundaries of the nurse practice act and adhering to hospital policies, including maintaining CPR certifications and attending required safety education programs. Your role will extend to operating equipment safely, maintaining a clean work area, and demonstrating proper body mechanics. Professionalism is key, and you will be expected to foster mature relationships with colleagues, maintain composure in stressful situations, and communicate effectively. Upholding patient confidentiality, presenting a neat appearance, and displaying a positive attitude are essential to support the hospital's customer service program and mission. Timeliness and reliability in completing work assignments and reporting to work are also critical to the role.
Required Skills
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Current licensed by the state of Kentucky or compact state
- BLS Certification American Heart Association (Healthcare Provider) or American Red Cross (Healthcare Provider) required, must be current
- CPI certification preferred
- Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures for medication administration
- Understanding of commonly used medications, including action, dose, and side effects
- Proficiency in all methods of medication administration
- Ability to maintain IV access and assess/document IV sites
- Skill in documenting narcotic use according to hospital policy
- Competence in MRI patient care observation and management
- Knowledge of PCA pain management procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional composure and confidence in stressful situations
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and hospital policies
- Positive attitude and customer service orientation
Required Experience
- Experience in a behavioral health unit or related clinical setting
- Demonstrated ability to administer medications and perform related nursing tasks
- Experience with patient care documentation and electronic health records
- Proven track record of maintaining professional relationships with colleagues
- History of adhering to safety standards and protocols
- Experience with patient and family education regarding treatment plans
- Prior involvement in continuing education and professional development
- Experience in operating medical equipment safely and competently
- Evidence of maintaining professional licensure and certifications
- Experience in working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
