Department/Unit/Area: Main Surgery Campus (MSC), Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), Same Day Surgery (SDS), Operating Room (OR), Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and Sterile Processing Department (SPD).
Lines of Responsibility: Reports to the Director of Surgical Services, VP of Nursing Services
Job Summary: Responsible and accountable for coordinating and supervising the nursing care provided to patients having operative or other invasive procedures.
Education/Licensure/Certification — Mandatory:
· Bachelor’s degree in nursing
· Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
· Current registered nurse licensure in state of employment
· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
· Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
· Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, depending on patient population
· Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Promote the mission, vision, and values of Jennie Stuart Health.
2. Manage the surgical area both operationally and fiscally.
3. Verify that perioperative personnel provide safe patient care in the area managed.
4. Incorporate and assist perioperative personnel with assimilating evidence-based practices into patient care.
5. Assist perioperative personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement.
6. Verify that educational resources are available for perioperative team education and hold perioperative personnel accountable for attendance and completion. Maintain records of education and competency.
7. Coordinate, facilitate, and manage change within surgical areas.
8. Demonstrate effective communication, consultation, negotiation, and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative teams and other stakeholders.
9. Collect and analyze data related to performance improvement projects that apply to the areas managed.
10. Use effective conflict resolution techniques.
11. Evaluate perioperative personnel performance.
12. Interview for perioperative personnel selection.
13. Verify that necessary perioperative personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
14. Verify perioperative personnel compliance with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory and accreditation standards.
15. Provide guidance, support, and constructive feedback to surgical and sterile processing team.
16. Exhibit professional, interpersonal, and communication skills.

18. Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization.
19. Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.
20. Review and update the departments performance improvement (PI) initiatives and report measurable PI data to appropriate departments.
21. Educate and mentor perioperative personnel and other clinicians in the perioperative environment about the implementation plan, functionality, and resolution of issues related to the perioperative information system and tools.
22. Troubleshoot problems and answer questions from perioperative RNs and other clinicians related to the perioperative information system and tools.
23. Resolve problems, issues, or concerns related to the perioperative information system or tools.
24. Escalate and communicate to the appropriate individuals the identification of problems, issues, or concerns when unable to resolve information technology issues.
25. Assist with documentation and information needs of the circulating RNs and other clinicians. Act as a liaison between perioperative nurses and the informatics nurse and members of internal and external perioperative information technology design and clinical documentation teams.

Required Skills

· Two years of management or specialty team leader experience
· Advanced computer skills (eg, Microsoft® PowerPoint, Excel)
· Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) certification

Required:
· Five years varied perioperative services experience
· Basic computer skills (eg, Microsoft® Word)
· Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and planning skills
· Strong verbal and written skills, including communication skills that promote interpersonal relations, customer service, and teamwork
