ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Skills you may perform upon being deemed competent: Application of heat and cold Insertion of needle/catheter into vein Discontinuance of peripheral IV catheter Insertion of urinary catheterization (male and/or female) - both indwelling and in and out catheterization Nasogastric tube insertion and removal Blood glucose monitoring Sterile dressing changes/wound care Splint application Tracheostomy care to well established tracheostomies Rectal enemas (without medications)
Skills you may NOT perform :Administration of medication (oral, rectal, IM, SQ, or intradermal).Administer blood or blood products. Access or discontinue ports or central venous lines .Receipt of verbal orders.
