Position summary: We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and quality-oriented Architect with three to five years of experience who is interested in taking an important role in the JMT Philadelphia architecture studio. The Philadelphia architecture studio focuses on projects that promote sustainability, equity, and quality design in and around Philadelphia.  Design aesthetic, occupant comfort, and technical functionality are key to each project we design. The successful candidate should be comfortable working with internal and external clients, demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, and possess the ability to manage various project tasks at one time.   

 

The candidate will be responsible for performing all phases of architectural work from site and building evaluations and conceptual design through construction administration.  Prime technical skills will include a working knowledge of and the demonstrated ability to create construction documents in accordance with client standards, as well as building and life safety codes.  The candidate should have experience in creating and editing specifications, cost estimates, design narrative reports.  The candidate will participate in and may occasionally lead the Philadelphia studio’s regular design charrettes, technical reviews, and quality assurance reviews. 

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Assist architectural team in development of the aesthetic and technical design and preparation of architectural design and construction documents,
  • Perform analyses of design, planning and occupancy studies and limited design layouts.
  • Prepare project specifications, compiling and analyzing relevant data.
  • Review completed reports, plans, and estimates.
  • Collaborate with in-house engineers and designers, outside consultants, and staff in virtual and in-person settings to meet clients’ goals.
  • Perform construction administration including response to submittals and RFIs and attendance at site meetings.
  • Review and develop fee proposals for tasks with guidance of a project manager.

 

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

Required Skills

  • Proficient with computer-assisted design software such as Revit, SketchUp or AutoCAD.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient with design presentation software such as Lumion, Twinmotion, or the Adobe Creative Suite.

Required Experience

  • Bachelors or Masters of Architecture
  • 3-5 years of architectural design experience
  • Professional Architect License

 

Preferred Experience

  • LEED AP accreditation preferred.
  • Experience in education, transportation, and community architecture.

 

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
