Position Summary: JMT has an immediate opening for a talented structural engineer to join our Marine and Waterfront Structures practice. The engineer will be involved in the design, analysis, inspection, rehabilitation, and construction support of a wide variety of port, waterfront, and marine infrastructure projects including piers, wharves, bulkheads, marine terminals, waterfront facilities, and related structures.
The position will involve structural engineering efforts from project planning and preliminary design through final design and construction administration. A sound technical background is required. The qualified candidate should possess a high energy level and be a self-motivated engineer who can work within a strong team environment, serving clients on projects throughout the East Coast.
Compensation for this position is $110,000.00 - $135,000.00 commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Work within multidisciplinary project teams and perform structural engineering efforts to support the delivery of marine and waterfront infrastructure projects.
- Perform structural analysis, design calculations, and engineering evaluations for new construction, rehabilitation, and repair of marine structures.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering calculations, construction documents, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Assist with the design of port-related infrastructure including piers, wharves, bulkheads, mooring structures, fender systems, foundations, and marine terminals.
- Coordinate with structural, geotechnical, coastal, environmental, and construction disciplines to support project development and delivery.
- Participate in site visits, condition assessments, inspections, and construction observations at active port and waterfront facilities.
- Support project managers in maintaining project schedules, budgets, and quality objectives.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, client standards, and maritime industry requirements, including USACE, NAVFAC, and other applicable standards.
- Assist with proposal preparation, technical approaches, and business development activities.
- Coordinate with internal and external project team members to ensure project completion by established deadlines and quality standards.
- Stay current with industry trends, design methodologies, and emerging technologies related to marine and waterfront infrastructure.
Required Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong technical problem-solving and organizational skills.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working on port, marine, or waterfront structure projects.
- Experience with the design, inspection, rehabilitation, or construction support of marine infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of applicable structural design codes and standards.
- Experience developing engineering calculations, technical reports, and construction documents.
Preferred Experience
- Master's degree in Structural, Civil, or Coastal Engineering.
- Experience with USACE, Navy, Port Authority, or Port Administration projects.
- Familiarity with various project delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, CMAR, and P3.
- Experience performing condition assessments and rehabilitation design for existing marine structures.
- Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software such as RAM Elements, RISA 3D, STAAD, SAP2000, LPILE, DeepEX, Optimoor, or similar programs.
- Experience with resilience, sustainability, and asset management principles for waterfront infrastructure.
- Experience supporting construction activities and field investigations.
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment the majority of the time. Field work is required on occasion at active ports, marine terminals, and waterfront facilities where work may be conducted outdoors in varying weather conditions, including exposure to saltwater and marine environments. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
