The Building Construction Liaison serves as the key point of communication between project stakeholders, internal teams, contractors, vendors, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth coordination throughout all phases of construction projects. This position facilitates project planning, scheduling, compliance, field coordination, and issue resolution to ensure construction activities align with organizational standards, timelines, and budgets.
General responsibilities:
- Act as the main communication bridge between internal project teams, contractors, architects, engineers, and regulatory agencies during building construction and renovation projects.
- Attend on-site meetings, construction walks, inspections, and project status meetings to represent the owner’s interests and communicate updates back to leadership.
- Monitor construction progress to identify issues, conflicts, or delays and facilitate timely resolutions.
- Verify that construction work is performed according to approved plans, specifications, codes, and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with facility operations teams to minimize disruption during construction activities.
- Track project milestones, contractor schedules, and key deliverables, providing regular reporting to project managers and leadership.
- Support the management of RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, shop drawings, punch lists, and project closeout processes.
- Assist with construction document review and field verification of design intent.
- Facilitate and track necessary inspections, permits, and compliance with applicable building codes and safety standards.
- Identify risks or potential cost impacts early and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of correspondence, daily logs, meeting minutes, and construction observations.
Required Skills
- OSHA 10/30 certification.
- Experience working in [government, education, healthcare, commercial construction, etc.].
- Knowledge of LEED, Green Globes, or other sustainable construction practices.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred. Equivalent work experience may be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in construction coordination, field inspection, construction management, or related roles.
- Strong knowledge of building construction methods, project management principles, and construction documents.
- Familiarity with reviewing and responding to submittals, shop drawings, and RFI’s.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations, building codes, and industry best practices.
- Ability to read and interpret contract documents, specifications, and construction schedules.
- Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Newforma, Bluebeam) preferred.
- Ability to work on active construction sites, including standing, walking, climbing, and occasional lifting.
- Travel to jobsites is required.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
Working Conditions
At JMT, we prioritize a healthy work/life balance and offer a flexible hybrid working schedule. The selected candidate is expected to work in a JMT office location at least three days per week or as needed to perform assigned duties. While most of our work is desk-based, there may be times when standing, walking, bending and lifting of minimal weight are required. Our office environment is comfortable, has adequate lighting and temperature, and is free from noise, dust, and other hazards.
