Responsibilities

The Sorghum Production Systems Officer (SPSO) will lead technical support and implementation for sorghum production under Subcomponent 1.2; and contribute to postharvest activities under Subcomponent 2.2. The officer will ensure adoption of climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive agricultural practices. Responsibilities include:

Oversee and implement field-level sorghum production activities;

Train farmer groups on improved agronomic practices;

Promote drought-tolerant crop varieties and ecosystem-based techniques;

Coordinate with research and extension institutions;

Contribute to data collection, reporting, and adaptive learning.

Requirements

Postgraduate degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, or a related field;

At least 5 years of experience in research, extension, or training in agriculture, preferably in South Sudan/Eastern Africa;

Strong technical knowledge of drought-tolerant cereal climate-smart agriculture, ecosystem-based management principles and legume systems;

Strong technical knowledge of excellent written and oral English communication, statistical skills, knowledge of computer applications and software for data collection and management are desirable;

Ability to work collaboratively in multicultural environments.

Reporting and Work Relationships

The Sorghum Production Systems Officer reports to the Project Manager. S/he works in close collaboration with colleagues, other IFDC staff and colleagues from other consortium members. 

Location

This is a national recruitment with a duty station at the IFDC office based in Juba, South Sudan.

Benefits

Salary Clause

The salary grade for this position is BG 8 with a monthly salary of USD 2,313.

The determination of new employee salaries takes into account various factors. These include the salary range linked to the assigned job grade, the candidate's qualifications in relation to the job's responsibilities and prerequisites, internal fairness, the competitive state of the job market, as well as potential organizational and budgetary considerations.
