Project Accountant

HOK's Corporate Accounting is currently seeking a motivated Project Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be located in either the St. Louis Corporate office, or our Washington D.C. firm, and will be able to work collaboratively with project managers and the Finance Director in the management of project  billing, reporting and general project accounting. 

The ideal candidate will have the skills and responsibility to:

  • Prepare monthly invoices, budgets and project management reports.
  • Provide accurate and timely accounting, reporting and project information for assigned projects.
  • Sets up and maintain projects on an in-house accounting system according to contract terms.
  • Track and input budget data for assigned projects.
  • Prepare, code and input project invoices.
  • Answer inquiries from staff, vendors or clients, and communicates financial information to project managers.
  • Maintain accounting files.
  • Input and post consultant invoices, communicates with consultants and submits their payments for approval.
  • Review project contracts and additional service requests to understand the financial requirements on each project.
  • Analyze project cost reports and meets frequently with Finance Management and Project Managers to review status of projects for invoicing, profitability, earnings, and costs.
  • Understand how projects earn revenue in the accounting system and assists the Business Manager monthly in analyzing and recording monthly project earnings.
  • May provide accounting support to other staff as needed.
  • Takes personal responsibility for fostering a green workplace through sustainable work practices. 

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of accounting and finance principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial-related reports.
  • Advanced knowledge of project accounting concepts and practices.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in Deltek Vision or similar project accounting software required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 2 plus years accounting experience; or an equivalent of education and experience required.
  • 2-5 years project accounting experience required. 
  • Accounting experience in an architecture firm preferred. 

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location.  The reasonably expected salary range for this position in Washington D.C. is $28.85/hour to $36.05/hour. Other compensation may include a discretionary bonus.
