Role Overview:
Could you be our next Assistant Regulatory Counsel? Globe Life is looking for an Assistant Regulatory Counsel to join the team!
In this role, you will be responsible for assisting with market conduct exams and coordinate with various internal departments, including monitoring and researching regulatory compliance issues related to insurance operations for the Globe Life family of companies. In addition, this position will also help in preparing summary analysis, drafting documents and making recommendations.
Legal research and writing skills are critical and projects will include document review, drafting a variety of communications to both internal business units and external regulatory authorities and other duties.
This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, Texas (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday).
What You Will Do:
- Assist with market conduct exams and similar state insurance department inquiries.
- Assist with Market Conduct Annual Statement (MCAS) Reporting, which includes collection and review of data from business units and interpretation of MCAS requirements, including implementation of any reporting changes from prior years.
- Will be a liaison with state insurance departments.
- Assist with regulatory change management, including reviewing and apprising of proposed legislation, regulations and bulletins.
- Assist with other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Provides prompt, professional advice to colleagues where necessary.
- Review regulatory change notifications received from third-party vendors, state insurance departments, industry sources, etc. and the distribution of relevant regulatory change notifications to applicable business units.
- Provide research and analysis of compliance issues pertaining to the Globe Life family of companies and provide interpretations regarding statutes and regulations.
- Conduct legal research inquiries when requested.
- Assist in the implementation of statutory and regulatory requirements when required.
- Performs other duties as directed or as situation dictates.
What You Can Bring:
- Juris doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensed member in good standing with state bar.
- 3 to 5 years related work experience including experience in interviewing and document discovery.
- Demonstrated research and problem-solving skills.
- Strong proofing and analytical skills.
- Ability to conduct accurate and organized research.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with competency in grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Strong interpersonal and organization skills required.
- The ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Detail oriented.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Independent self-starter with the ability to work well both independently and in a team environment.
- Familiarity and efficiency with Westlaw.
- Detail-oriented with ability to analyze information and make logical conclusions.
- Preferred but not required: familiarity with statutes and regulations impacting the insurance industry and corporations generally, prior experience working in a compliance department of a life or health insurance company.
