SUD Clinical Supervisor - Hairston Program

We are searching for a Clinical Supervisor to work on a PT basis to work within the Residential Rehabilitation Services (RRS)’s team model, establishing open communication, support, and accountability among staff and residents.  This person will answer to the Program Director, who is responsible for providing supervision and training.  The Clinical Supervisor is one who will provide individual and group supervision to all staff while supporting these staff in developing skills in responding to complex issues such as co-occurring disorders and trauma.  The Clinical Supervisor may conduct assessments and provide individual and group services to residents requiring additional supports.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • To provide program oversight for the designated Substance Use Services Program under the direction of the Program Director.
  • To provide individual and group clinical supervision (minimum-1 hour) to counselors, case managers, recovery specialists, overnight awake staff, and interns while supporting these staff in developing skills in responding to complex issues such as co-occurring disorders and trauma; in accordance with DPH-BSAS residential regulations and Gándara Center policies and procedures standards.
  • To coordinate and supervise behavioral/mental health services.
  • To supervise non-licensed and licensed direct service staff in the administration of services residents.
  • To provide leadership and guidance to the primary care staff (DC II) to ensure the resident's experience is as seamless as possible. The guidance to the primary care staff will be given in: the proper use of behavioral health tools and methodology, in the provision of services, in the events or conditions that require treatment planning interventions or referral to specialty, secondary or tertiary providers, which are provided by the Program Director or his/her designee.
  • To provide standards and guidelines to licensed and unlicensed Substance Use Staff in various environments and modalities.
  • To ensure proper care is being provided in accordance with program contracts
  • To develop and provide ongoing clinical and staff development and program planning.
  • To establish a clinical practice policy, case conferencing, creating and reviewing treatment plans, as needed.
  • To collaborate with other departments in settings where care must be coordinated between medical (MAT, Psychiatric) and behavioral.
  • To provide direct service to residents of the Center (dependent upon the program and the skill level of the clinician in the clinical supervisory role).
  • To provide short-term therapy for adults in individual, group, or individual therapy, as needed.
  • To collaborate with primary care and psychiatry, in an effort to coordinate care for the effective treatment of complex and multiple diagnoses.
  • To meet clinical benchmarks for quality care.
  • To provide behavioral/mental health consultation, including the development of Mental Health and Health Education materials to the program staff through group training or to individual staff, as directed.
  • To train other Substance Use specialist staff
  • To work with the Consulting Psychiatrist and Primary Care Providers collaboratively and within the scope of practice regarding psychotropic medication management.
  • To administer such behavioral/mental health assessments as necessary to diagnose and/ or provide objective function measures as necessary and as mandated by the Substance Use Services.
  • To conduct assessments and provide individual and group services to residents requiring additional support as a result of co-occurring disorders and/or trauma.
  • To train Substance Use Specialists and other program personnel as necessary in treatment protocols, diagnostic and bio psychosocial assessment, interpretation, and formulation.
  • To train staff on clinical intervention strategies, treatment planning, and Substance Use screenings as necessary for excellent service delivery standards.
  • To train other program personnel as necessary in protocols, assessment methods, interpretations, and client intervention strategies.
  • To work in collaboration with the Quality Assurance & Improvement Coordinator and under the direction of the Program Director develop and implement behavioral/mental health Quality Assurance processes as required in compliance with all Federal, State, County, and Funder requirements.
  • To assess professional capabilities of Substance Use Specialists to provide behavioral/mental health and assessment services to Adult and Older Adult residents as directed and provide performance evaluations in compliance with the Gándara Center standards.
  • To work in collaboration with primary care health providers, employees, and outside consultants, as needed.
  • To conduct case conferences with Substance Use Specialists and other clinical staff weekly.
  • To participate as a member/facilitate the multi-disciplinary team meeting when needed.

 


Required Skills

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of client population behavior dynamics.
  • Knowledge of treatment related to client knowledge.
  • Knowledge of state regulations and licensing procedures regarding service provision.
  • Knowledge of training needs and procedures.
  • Knowledge of community resources/agencies.
  • Knowledge of behavioral health/addiction information related to adult health and mental health, including co-occurring conditions.
  • Ability to structure and organize job responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to master First Aid, CPR, Defensive Driving and Fire Safety
  • Ability to monitor the flow of written communications and records to appropriate agencies.
  • Displays sound judgment.
  • Displays excellent supervisory and delegation skills.
  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and understanding of adult/older adult populations.
  • Desire to work with an ethnically diverse adult and older adult population.
  • Good clinical understanding of adult behavioral health, mental health, and substance use diagnosis in the DSM V and brief, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Works well as a team member.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English)

Required Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in one of the following disciplines: Clinical Psychology, Mental Health Counseling, Education-Counseling, Medicine, Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Rehabilitative Counseling, Social Work, Human Services or related field required and/or
  • Must have substance use experience.
  • Must have 2 years of experience in mental health services.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have auto insurance.
  • Must meet Agency requirements for driving history records.
  • Must accept travel assignments on the job, as directed by the program.
  • Must be bilingual (English/Spanish), preferably bi-cultural.

Working Conditions

  • This position is a 25 hour a week position, five (5), five (5) hour days unless agreed upon by the Program Director. Shift hours may vary.  Additionally, he/she may be required to work some holidays and/or some weekends. The Clinical Supervisor may shares office space with approximately one (1) team member for purposes of record keeping, writing progress notes and other administrative tasks.  Working conditions also include travel between the program and other Agency sites for case management sessions.  This job at times entails going into high crime neighborhoods.  This position involves being exposed to smoking environments and at-risk populations.
