DYS Direct Care II Staff - Alternative Options - Various Shifts

We're looking for a Residential Counselor II /Direct Care Worker for our DYS Program. The Direct Care II is an Evolution of the basic, Direct Care I position. Direct Care II staff is expected to continue to fulfill all expectations of a DC1. In addition to those expectations, the Direct Care II will take more of a leadership role. To maintain a therapeutic environment within the residence, which includes meeting the needs of the client in the following areas: safety, medical, emotional, food, clothing, and shelter. To participate in the development of reasonable limits and structure for each child and to implement these limits on a daily basis in the residence and community in a fair and consistent manner.

  1. Duties and Responsibilities

Client Services Responsibilities

  • To assure that applicable rules, policies and procedures are being followed on their shifts.
  • To adhere to all the expectations of a Direct Care
  • To assist the Supervisor in leading a shift.
  • To implement each client’s individual Level Plan objectives under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and Program Supervisor.
  • To accurately log all required documentation.
  • To be responsible for acting as a “Staff Advocate” for one client.
  • To provide appropriate, safe responses to emergency situations when necessary.
  • To develop strong, supportive relationships with the clients.
  • To provide for client care and safety, and observe all safety measures.
  • To recognize that ethnic and cultural diversity of each individual must be valued and respected.
  • To provide crisis intervention.
  • To notify Program Manager immediately in the event of a client crisis, suspected illegal activity or any behavior constituting an incident in the program.
  • To plan and organize a variety of appropriate recreational and social activities.
  • To perform routine housekeeping tasks as needed.
  • To assist clients with activities of daily living, including but not limited to food shopping & preparation, housekeeping, banking, appointments, etc.
  • To perform other duties as assigned by the Program Supervisor and/or Program Director.

Administrative Responsibilities/Record Keeping

  • Knows and understands all pertinent aspects of Agency policies and procedures.
  • Manages petty cash allocations as delegated by Supervisor or Director.
  • Knows and understands EEC licensing requirements as they apply to their shifts.
  • Knows and understands DYS policy and procedures.
  • Attends and participates in all required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Assumes on-call responsibilities within the Program on a rotating basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Good communication skills both verbal and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with conflict in an appropriate manner.
  • Ability to master First Aid, CPR, Defensive Driving, Fire Safety and administering Medication.
  • Ability to maintain proper attendance.
  • Displays sound judgement.
  • Works well as a team member.
  • Seeks and uses management staff for training and supervision.
  • Attends Agency and Department required meetings and trainings.
  • Displays excellent supervisory and delegation skills.
  • Ability to deal with diverse population at carried levels of management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Has completed or willingness to attend DYS training academy in Grafton, MA.
  • Physical demands are located at the end of this job description. **


Required Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated positive experience/ability as a Direct Care I.
  • Associates degree or bachelor’s degree in human service field preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working in a related field dealing with youths preferred.
  • Demonstrates willingness to take on a leadership role.
  • Prior supervisory role.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must meet Agency requirements for driving history records.
  • Must have availability of an automobile to transport clients or perform other supportive services as necessary.
