Framatome is looking for a talented Component Engineer for our office in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania to support IBR-A Component Repair & Replacement (CR&R). CR&R is one of the leading organizations in the US for replacement, repair, and long term asset management mitigation of nuclear power plant components.  We design, fabricate, and install major replacement Nuclear Steam Supply System components. We are looking for talented and ambitious mechanical engineers to join our team and help us continue to upgrade and transform the nuclear power plants to provide clean, carbon free energy to the world for future generations.



Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of product specifications, preparation of component design drawings, issuing procurement documents, oversight of component fabrication including interface with inspection teams, preparation of field installation procedures, and support of field implementation activities. Multiple people in the group have received patents based on project deliverables.
  • While the majority of our work is in support of the existing operating fleet, the group is also actively involved supporting multiple new reactor concepts. Our current work scopes include detailed design of reactor internals, rigging and transport planning, and interference studies.
  • Sporadic domestic travel is required to attend customer meetings, perform plant walkdowns, and to support installation activities. Infrequent international travel is possible.
  • The Component Engineer role is the key interface between the customer, our analysis team, fabricators, and our field installation craft. In this role an attention to detail and ability to balance competing requirements are keys for success. The successful candidate will be integrated into our team and will work along senior engineers to complete assignments of increasing complexity.
  • Applicants MUST be able to obtain unescorted access to a Commercial Nuclear facility.



Travel: Occasional/sporadic

Required Experience

All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this opportunity:

  • BS in Mechanical or Structural Eng'g/Eng'g Tech. plus a minimum of 3 years of engineering experience. An advanced degree may be substituted for related exp. (MS 1-2 yrs. or PhD 1-3 yrs.). In applicable states a PE license will be accepted in lieu of a 4 yr. engineering degree. 



The following may be used to differentiate candidates who apply for this position:

  • Experience performing product / equipment design
  • Candidate should have a working knowledge of typical metal fabrication techniques.(Welding, machining, etc.)
  • Candidate should have good communication skills, be able to work as part of a team, and be able to manage multiple simultaneous assignments
  • Experience working on commercial, DOE, or DOD nuclear projects
  • Hands on experience with design and fabrication processes including demonstrated ability to take products from drawing creation through delivery to the customer is a differentiator.
  • Experience using SOLIDWORKS is highly desirable, but will train suitable candidates if required.
  • Experience with technical writing (procedures, specifications, operating manuals)
  • Familiarity with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and ASTM material standards
  • Ability to effectively work within smaller project teams, be accountable for deliverables within a set budget, strong problem identification and resolution skills, hands-on aptitude to problem solving
  • Experience or potential as a team leader / supervisor
  • Experience working as a remote employee or as part of a geographically diverse team
