How will your role impact First Command?
The Senior Portfolio Analyst supports enterprise investment governance and portfolio management by leading business case development, analyzing initiative value and alignment, and producing actionable insights for strategic prioritization. This role partners directly with initiative sponsors, senior leaders, and governance stakeholders to evaluate proposals, manage portfolio data, and inform investment decisions. The analyst ensures transparency, alignment, and value realization across the enterprise portfolio, while also supporting core governance operations and portfolio reporting.
What will you be doing?
- Lead the development, review, and refinement of business cases in collaboration with initiative sponsors.
- Analyze initiative alignment, resource requirements, strategic value, and risk.
- Develop insights and recommendations for prioritization and sequencing based on roadmap and portfolio health.
- Prepare materials and executive briefings for governance committees, ELT, and Board meetings.
- Track and report on portfolio performance, benefits realization, and key metrics.
- Maintain initiative records and support governance workflows across intake, evaluation, prioritization, and post-execution review.
- Contribute to portfolio roadmap maintenance and development of governance templates, tools, and reporting standards.
- Partner with the Director to identify risks, support strategic reviews, and drive continuous improvement.
What skills/qualifications do you need?
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Project Management, Strategy, or a related field is required. Advanced degree preferred.
Work Experience
- 6+ years in portfolio analysis, project management, or strategic planning.
- Experience in business case development and strategic evaluation.
Certifications
- PMP, PfMP, SAFe Lean Portfolio Management, or other relevant project management certifications preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficient in portfolio tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Power BI, Excel).
- Ability to operate independently and manage ambiguity in a dynamic environment.
