How will your role impact First Command?

The Commercial Credit Analyst is responsible for analyzing and evaluating the creditworthiness of existing and prospective commercial borrowers by reviewing financial statements, tax returns, industry trends, and other relevant data. This role primarily supports the commercial loan portfolio management process by providing detailed credit analyses, risk assessments, and recommendations to aid in loan approval and portfolio monitoring decisions. The analyst works closely with loan portfolio managers, loan officers, and management to ensure accurate and thorough evaluations.

What will you be doing?

  1. Accurate Financial Analysis: Accurately spread, analyze, and interpret financial statements and tax returns of existing and prospective borrowers, providing detailed footnotes and commentary as needed.
  2. Variance Identification and Analysis: Identify material variances in borrowers' financial statements, researching discrepancies through direct communication with borrowers, CPAs, or financial advisors, and leveraging industry sources or public records as necessary.
  3. Portfolio Risk Management: Collaborate with Loan Portfolio Managers to perform annual reviews of commercial loans to confirm risk ratings and compliance with loan covenants. Notify Portfolio Managers and management of irregularities and prepare default/waiver letters when required.
  4. Post-Close Compliance: Conduct post-close reviews on transactions to confirm compliance with approval requirements.
  5. Tickler Management: Assist Loan Portfolio Managers and Loan Operations Specialists in following up on past-due tickler items as required by loan documents. Independently update tickler items as needed.
  6. Procedure Updates: Contribute to writing and updating departmental procedures, offering recommendations for improvement.
  7. Business Credit Card Underwriting: Contribute to the underwriting process for business credit card applications with assistance from Loan Portfolio Managers as needed.
  8. Department Reporting: Support the preparation and maintenance of departmental reports, including a portfolio summary of recently completed annual reviews, risk rating change documentation, present value models for impaired loans, and meeting minutes for the Internal and Director’s Loan Committees.
  9. Special Assignments: Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor to support departmental needs.

What skills/qualifications do you need?

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.

 

Work Experience

  • 0-3 years of experience in commercial credit analysis, financial analysis, or a related role in commercial banking or finance is preferred.

Certifications 

  • None required

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1.     Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and evaluate risks.

2.     Accounting and Finance Knowledge: General understanding of basic accounting principles, cash flow, and finance concepts, including calculations of payments, rates, and amortization.

3.     Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; certification preferred.

4.     Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in financial analysis and documentation.

5.     Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills to convey complex financial information clearly and concisely.

6.     Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to develop practical solutions for credit-related challenges.

7.     Time Management: Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with moderate supervision while managing competing deadlines.

8.     Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with stakeholders.
