How will your role impact First Command?
The Project Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of First Command Portfolio projects from inception to completion. The Project Accountant will be responsible for tracking project costs, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and collaborating with project managers to maintain budget integrity. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, cost management, and financial analysis.
What will you do in this role?
· Monitor and track project expenses to ensure adherence to budget and financial goals.
· Prepare project financial reports, including project forecasts and variance analysis.
· Identify and resolve discrepancies in project financial data.
· Reconcile project accounts and manage month-end and year-end closing activities related to projects.
· Assist the Accounting team with project-related journal entries.
· Collaborate with project managers to review financial performance and provide recommendations for cost control.
· Maintain accurate records of project-related financial documents.
· Review vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and subcontractor payments related to projects. Communicate with vendors to ensure invoices are submitted with all necessary data.
· Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and contract requirements.
· Support audits and provide financial data as needed.
· Any other tasks and duties as agreed with the FP&A leader.
What skills & qualifications do you need?
Education
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
Work Experience
· 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in project-based industries
Certifications
· CPA or CMA a plus
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Experience with financial processes including month-end close, budgeting & forecasting, management reporting, variance analysis and cost allocations.
· Experience with SAP Concur App a plus.
· Familiar with standard accounting (GAAP) concepts, practices, and procedures
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
· Able to thrive in a team environment and contribute to team objectives
· Excellent presentation building and delivery skills
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
