Business Contribution:


  • This role is about bridging the gap between embedded electronics and real-world physical equipment. It is about controlling machinery, collecting data and creating systems of products which work together to achieve a clear benefit for the customer.
  • Close involvement with Advanced Technology Development colleagues, collaborating globally to develop proofs of concept, technology demonstration mules and functional prototypes.
  • Part of the Systems Engineering team which is responsible for electronic hardware and firmware development across the Enerpac product range.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Collaborating with UK and Global colleagues to develop interconnected systems of new heavy duty industrial tool products.
  • Serving as a Technical Authority for systems architecture, product interconnectivity and interdependence whilst making best use of the electronic hardware and firmware development skills and knowledge existing within the team
  • Using CAN bus, Bluetooth and other communication technologies to create products which talk to each other, share data, synchronise operation and connect to cloud-based data storage.
  • Ensure business processes are executed according to the set procedures and standard workflow.
  • Ensure all ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 rules and regulations are communicated and enforced throughout the Organization. Proactively participate to safety awareness and improvement.
  • Represent the Company in a professional manner at all times, both internally and externally.
  • Follow the published processes and comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Be an ambassador for the businesses in particular ensure that Health & Safety comes first at all times.


Required Capabilities:


This role requires broad understanding of many different facets of engineering including mechanical systems and hydraulics alongside the key disciplines of control systems, electronics and firmware development. It is likely that the successful candidate will have developed the necessary experience over at least 10 years in industry, in a range of different technical roles and arenas.


Product and Systems Development

  • Creation of Systems Architectures for families of products which must interact with each other whilst relying on a foundation of core technology platforms.
  • Writing detailed technical and functional specifications for mechanical and electro-mechanical systems of products.
  • Experience of developing systems for compliance with functional safety to IEC 61508 or similar
  • Understanding of motion control, electrical power, hydraulics, wired and wireless communications platforms including CAN bus and Bluetooth Low Energy
  • Broad understanding of control engineering techniques and tools
  • Documentation, architecture diagrams, test specifications, validation tools.
  • Integrating control systems with motors, batteries, motor control/drives, sensors
  • Matlab/Simulink experience highly beneficial.
  • Experience developing data analysis tools in Python or Labview highly beneficial.


Electronic Hardware and Firmware Development Knowledge

  • This is not a pure hardware or firmware development role, but experience in development of embedded systems and understanding of hardware-level issues is essential.
  • Ability to develop prototype firmware in C to prove concepts before progressing to full NPD would be beneficial
