GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Cooler Operations Intern will assist in creating operational efficiencies in the Picking Department by collecting and analyzing data regarding order fulfillment. The intern will investigate how a locator system for stored items is being utilized, how long it takes pickers to collect orders per pick line, and what changes can be made to even out work flow per pick line at our refrigerated distribution center (the Cooler). Increased efficiencies will decrease loading turn time and labor costs, reduce the need for inventory adjustments and allow for better utilization of cold room space.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS / DUTIES OF THE POSITION
- Create value stream maps for picking operations
- Work with managers, supervisors, forepersons to create product process flows as well as time studies
- Make recommendations regarding labor savings and product quality improvements
- Design and populate a database for product retrieval information
- Conduct a cost analysis of proposed efficiencies
- Process documentation
- Capacity utilization analysis
- Create and deliver a final presentation to supervisor, manager and executive team of Dole Fresh Vegetables.
- Other duties as assigned
INTERNSHIP DETAILS
- Summer 2025, 12-week internship
- 100% onsite (not a remote internship)
- Pay Rate: $20 - $22 per hour
- No relocation or housing assistance provided
Required Skills
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Advanced Excel Skills
- Knowledge of Statistical Analysis
- Familiar with Process Improvement techniques is desired
- Reliability is essential
- Organizational Skills, Computer Skills, Communication Skills
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing is a plus
- Bi-lingual, Spanish/English is preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.
- Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment, bend, stoop, climb stairs, lift up to 25 pounds, identify and distinguish colors, and work in a cold environment.
- Ability to walk on uneven ground
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Full time 40-hour workweek
- No overtime expected
- 12-week internship
- No travel expected
Required Experience
EDUCATION LEVEL AND FIELDS OF STUDY
- Fall 2025 rising sophomore, junior or senior obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Business, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Accounting, Data Analysis, or a related field
