GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:
This position falls under the DOCE division (Dole Ocean Cargo Express). DOCE manages the ocean freight operations for Dole, handling the shipping of 3rd party cargo across North, Central America, and Europe. Dole specializes in moving refrigerated containers and maintains one of the largest reefer fleets in the world. You will oversee the processing, investigation, and administrative reporting of commercial cargo claims and equipment accident/damage report files for Dole Ocean Cargo Express LLC (DOCE).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
- Establish and assign preliminary cargo claim files upon notification of potential liability from departments, divisions, agents, and/or customers (Shippers and/or Consignees).
- Coordinate the collection of internal documentation (Bills of Lading, Temperature Downloads, Terminal EIRs, Vessel Manifest, etc.) from respective departments, divisions, and/or agents required for preliminary claim analysis.
- Correspond with customer (when applicable) the acknowledgement of claim notification, the limitations of Carrier liability, the burden of proof requirements to proceed with a formal cargo claim, and the supporting documentation required for Carrier review.
- Perform thorough investigation and analysis of potential contributing factors relative to the alleged cargo damages/losses being claimed.
- Provide DOCE management an assessment of claim particulars for consideration of liability to determine initial position of claim acceptance, settlement, or rejection.
- Correspond with customer (when applicable) DOCE management’s position of Carrier liability including possible settlement offers and/or rejection of claim.
- Process and distribute formal Claim Release documentation and payment processing instructions to customer and/or agent for finalization.
- Update, maintain, and report (monthly) the electronic control log for Equipment Accident/Damage files used to DOCE’s Damaged Equipment Reserve.
- Update, maintain, and report (monthly) the electronic control logs for Preliminary and Formal Claim files used to determine DOCE's Claim Reserve.
- Investigation and analysis of potential contributing factors relative to the equipment accident/damages being reported.
- Update, maintain, and report (monthly) the import & export empty container volumes & tonnage per OSRA 2022 regulations to the FMC (Federal Maritime Commission).
- Assist in the administrative management of TMS (Transportation Management System).
- Assist in the administrative management of C-TPAT & Security Training programs.
- Administrative management of DOCE Website (Super-User license).

- Knowledge of Import/Export documentation (preferred)
- Familiarity with International geography (preferred)
