GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for managing a crew harvesting and packing a top-quality pack of Cauliflower, in a safe manner, while minimizing harvesting labor cost and preparing this product for delivery to the cooler in the shortest possible time and at the least possible cost. 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

• Ensure that the product quality is consistent with their supervisor’s instructions.
• Determine when field haul equipment should be dispatched to a field, and how that equipment should enter and exit the harvesting area.
• Determine the physical location of the crew members, determine the type of box(s) to be used, and  when the crews should receive their breaks.
• Communicate orally with crew members, Supervisors, and to have adequate written skills to prepare such written documentation as incident reports.
• Make every effort to eliminate any type of safety incident.
• Manage crew labor problems and hold unjustified grievances to a minimum.
• Maintain harvest equipment in same condition as received, less normal wear and tear. 
• Stay in compliance with employee safety and food safety regulations.
• Train new hires on techniques such as packing, cutting, loading, etc.
• Issue equipment such as cutting knife, gloves, rubber boots, etc.
• Prepare and maintain time/payroll records and reports, as well as disciplinary actions.

 

 

 


Required Skills

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

• Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience as a Foreperson I Cauliflower harvesting.
• Understanding of principles of proper Cauliflower harvesting.
• Ability to accomplish work on time and correct errors.
• Must have the ability to make decisions, appear for work on time, follow directions, interact well with co-workers, understand and follow posted work rules/procedures and to accept constructive criticism.
• Ability to maintain a positive work environment.
• Ability to prioritize workload and have a high level of professionalism and self-confidence, self-starter.
• Ability to operate Company assigned vehicle in a safe manner.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills, communication and organization skills
  •   Bilingual language skills preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work in various weather conditions
• Ability to walk in uneven ground
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to climb on and off harvesting equipment
• Ability to travel to various harvesting locations and relocate

 

WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work long hours and work 7 days a week when necessary
• Must be willing to relocate to Yuma, Arizona 6 months out of the year.
 

 

 


Required Experience

 

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

• H.S. Diploma or equivalent experience
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

 

PAY RATE:

  • $75,400 - $77,500 Annually
