GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for independently performing both routine and non-routine accounting and financial reporting functions for the assigned area.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

• Prepare, understand, and analyze business processes including grower contracts and determine accounting impact 
• Prepare general ledger journal entries related but not limited to COGS for vegetable cost transaction, Liability Accruals and Cost allocation; verify the accuracy of recorded accounting transactions and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
• Prepare deferred crop cost/ inventory and Vegetable Purchase Reclass journal entries.
• Prepare grower advance crop cost entries.
• Summarize balance sheet account activity; prepare periodic balance sheet account reconciliations. 
• Maintain and/or reconcile accounting subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger (AR, inventory, grower payables, prepaids, accrued liabilities, etc.). 
• Prepare and accumulate supporting documentation for various vendors, growers and other third parties 
• Research and/or provide accounting information to middle and upper management customers, as well as Corporate Headquarters.
• Prepare accounting reports for monthly close and financial reporting cycles. 
• Prepare and /or review invoice package to be sent to Accounts Payable for payment approval.
• Identify process improvements and lead implementation
• Ability to implement new department processes. 
• Partner with business leaders on development and analysis of the annual operating budget. 
• Prepare audit schedules for both internal and external auditors. 
• Other duties as assigned. 

 

 

 


Required Skills

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

• 5-7 years’ experience in accounting. 
• Working experience in Agriculture industry highly desirable as well as SOX exposure
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with high level of accuracy
• Soft skills are a must: Ability to work and collaborate very well with others, ability to contribute to create a healthy, harmonious, and friendly work environment 
• Aptitude to positively adjust with change and desire to assume new responsibilities
• Analyze processes, lead technological improvements and identify financial impact 
• Strategic thinker, creative problem-solver, and decision-maker; ability to find innovative, thoughtful solutions to a range of business problems
• Effective computer skills, Microsoft suite (Outlook, Word, Power Point and advanced Excel skills), familiarity with ERP systems and processes
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), procedures and application.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet all required deadlines
• Language Requirements:  English. Bilingual in Spanish is helpful. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.  
• The employee must occasionally lift (including overhead) up to 15 lbs.

WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work beyond normal business hours, weekends and some company holidays as needed.
• Will require extended hours work coverage as needed and given business environment and conditions

 

 

 


Required Experience

 

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
• CPA a plus

PAY RATE:

  • $97,000 - $111,000 Annually
