GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

The Safety Compliance Manager has the responsibility for the implementation and administration of all safety policies and safe practices, ultimately achieving full compliance with local, state, federal and company regulations. The focus of this position is to create a culture in which we continually work towards a goal of zero injuries. The position will have the

 authority to make decisions while exercising discretion and independent judgment.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

 

  • Assists, plans, and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local legislation and codes governing environmental health and safety (OSHA, EPA, and DOT).
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
  • Implement the Company's Target Zero Safety System and the Ten Core Elements.
  • Perform self-assessments to identify and mitigate risk. Conduct reviews and audits of all areas of the operation and facility.
  • Develop and implement accident investigation, data analysis, recurrence prevention programs and procedures, and ensure corrective actions are followed through. Ensure the program clearly explains the methods and practices for reporting and investigating accidents/exposures; communicate risks to management.
  • Coordinate Risk Management Plan (RMP)/Process Safety Management (PSM) inspections.
  • Monitor all current information on regulations and requirements related to hazardous materials and agents.
  • Develop and direct the general safety programs to ensure a safe environment, comply with corporate safety and program standards. Design training for all levels of management and employees.
  • Investigate and evaluate new safety equipment for appropriateness.
  • Assist and manage the Emergency Response Plan. Ensure appropriate individuals are trained in the processes and procedures should the plan be activated. Respond and support all emergency situations.
  • Assist with the early return to work and modified duty program, monitoring and analyzing accident and injury trends, performing hazard analysis; working directly with the Risk Department to investigate all reports in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct regular training and ensure that the following are practiced: Personal Protective Equipment, Machine Safety & Equipment usage, Lockout/Tagout, Hazardous Communication, Evacuation Drills, Fall Prevention, etc. Ensure all recordkeeping is timely and conforms to corporate's mandates.
  • Follow all Food Safety Requirements and GMPs as applicable to position.
  • Work effectively with other department managers to enhance the safety program.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 


Required Skills

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  • 4+ years related experience in environmental health and safety compliance.
  • Experience assisting or leading in a culture-change initiative regarding safety and safe practices.
  • Ability to make decisions and be process and results driven.
  • Solid knowledge of OSHA standards and applications of industry codes.
  • Effective hands-on management skills with the capability of resolving organizational, training, communication, and interpersonal problems that may arise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present facts and recommendations in oral and written form.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure while managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand, evaluate and make judgment on proposals.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; to gather and analyze information skillfully.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods of time; ability to answer phones and utilize a variety of office equipment. Ability to lift, stand, stoop, and perform otherwise physical functions required in normal office settings.

WORK HOUR & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Need to be able to assist in problem solving beyond normal business hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as business requires.

 

 


Required Experience

 

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

 

  • Preferred: bachelor’s degree in occupational health and environmental safety or a related field
  • Most Preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) by Board of Certified Safety Professional

PAY RATE:

  • $105,000 - $111,000 Annually
