*This is a twelve (12) month administrative position with a competitive salary dependent upon knowledge, skills and experience

 

The Director of Campus Safety is responsible for direction and leadership to ensure the safety of the DSC campuses. The position leads the entire team (40+ staff) responsible for ensuring that contemporary standards of good practice are maintained for the safety of students, faculty and staff and college assets at all times.

 

 

Reporting to the College Provost, the Director II position oversees all Campus Safety staff on three shifts; performs administrative and technical work to develop, implement and coordinate the College’s emergency management program; acts as the liaison for the college’s disaster recovery efforts, oversees emergency training, exercises and campus awareness programs; and acts as the liaison for the college with community law enforcement and emergency management agencies.

 

 

Required Qualifications: This position requires a bachelor’s degree as well as knowledge and experience in Emergency and Critical Incident Management. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum of six (6) years of professional supervisory experience in a security or law enforcement environment. Must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer and a demonstrated history of career advancement within law enforcement, including promotions to positions of increased responsibility and leadership.

 

Desired Qualifications: A master’s degree is preferred. Experience in a higher education and Campus Safety Operations setting is also preferred.

 

Please Note: This position requires the ability to work during times of crisis and emergencies, as needed.

 

Key Responsibilities This is not a comprehensive list of responsibilities:

  • Coordinates, plans, and organizes the activities of safety and security; provides direction and oversight for the administration of department functions; develops and recommends operating budget requirements.
  • Supervises staff of 40+ campus safety officers on three shifts, including 24-hour dispatch and response functions and campus safety management positions.
  • Serves as the head of the Critical Incident Management Team for the College; coordinates all required and suggested documents and activities associated with response to critical incidents.
  • Acts as the liaison to local, state, and federal emergency management entities.
  • Ensures compliance with rules, standards and laws pertaining to public safety on campus, including Title IX and the Jeanne Cleary Act reporting requirements.
  • Oversees and maintains effective traffic management on campus, including parking control.
  • Organizes training and exercises for college administration, faculty and staff to keep the college community up to date on best practices related to safety and emergency management.
  • Maintains timely communication to senior leadership at the college, including the president and provost, and responsible for coordinating campus-wide communication for all matters related to public safety.
  • Key member of safety-related committees and groups at the college, such as the Behavioral Intervention Team and the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Responds to inquiries and/or concerns from students, staff, or the general public to solve problems or discrepancies.
  • Researches and troubleshoots areas that need development and improvement while collaborating with other areas and departments to identify and support activities of benefit to the entire College.

  • Ability to take direction as well as work effectively and professionally on their own.
