About this Position

            Crowley is seeking a Chief Engineer to work onboard the SS Wright based out of Newport News, VA. This vessel is currently operating at a Reserved Operational Status (ROS) with a small crew but can be brought up to Full Operational Status at the discretion of MARAD. While in ROS status officers work Monday through Friday 0800-1700, with a rotating overnight, weekend, and holiday watch/security check schedule. Should the SS Wright be called up to FOS all ROS crew are expected to stay on with the vessel through her activation period.

This position does require the candidate to join the American Maritime Officers (AMO) Union as a condition of employment. All benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401k, and pension will be provided through the union. Click here to learn more about AMO’s benefit offerings.

Desired Experience and Credentials 

Minimum Qualifications

  • USCG MMC

o  International Capacities and Limitations

§   Officer Forming Part of an Engineering Watch (OICEW)

§   Basic Training (BT)

§   Personal Survival Craft (PSC)

§   Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (VPDSD)

o  Domestic Capacities and Limitations

§   Engineer Officer – Chief Engineer of Steam Propelled Vessels

  • Valid Passport 
  • Valid TWIC
  • USCG Medical Certificate (STCW)

Preferred Qualifications

·       Current MSC Government Vessels Training

                 Must be willing and able to go through MSC physicals and training.
