Infrastructure Network Engineer

The Infrastructure Network Engineer will design, deploy, and support mission-critical network infrastructure for the Military Health System (MHS) under the Defense Health Administration (DHA). This role involves architecting, implementing, and maintaining enterprise network systems across routing, switching, security, and load balancing technologies. The Network Engineer will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy and support physical and virtual network infrastructure, including VMware, Linux, Windows Server, and enterprise storage arrays.
Responsibilities
- Network Design & Administration: Design, deploy, upgrade, and support enterprise and facility network infrastructure.
- Routing & Switching: Implement and manage BGP, OSPF, and LISP routing technologies.
- Network Security: Support and maintain Palo Alto Firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), and VPNs.
- Network Infrastructure Management: Maintain and configure networking platforms, including:
- Cisco (Catalyst 4500/9300/9500, Nexus, ASR/ISR Routers)
- Palo Alto Firewalls, IDS, IPS
- F5 BIG-IP, Citrix Netscaler
- Ruckus 7750/7450/6610
- Cisco ISE, Cisco ACS
- Network Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Utilize tools such as Wireshark, TCPDump, and other network traffic analyzers.
- Load Balancing: Manage F5 or Citrix platforms to optimize network performance.
- Software-Defined Networking (SDN): Implement SDN principles for efficient network management.
- Compliance & Security Standards: Ensure compliance with DISA STIGs, NIST 800-53, IAVAs, and auditing processes.
- Attend planning sessions to understand business and technical requirements.
- Follow change management policies, ensuring a stable, well-documented network infrastructure.
- Prepare and submit change requests, present complex changes in weekly change management meetings.
- Document projects, support actions, and network configurations for reference by engineers and management.
- Ensure incidents and service requests meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Provide written and verbal status reports to management.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Information Technology (or 7 years of relevant experience).
- 4+ years of experience with F5 or Citrix platforms OR 3+ years of experience with Cisco ACS/ISE.
- 8570 Compliant / CCNA OS certification preferred.
- Advanced expertise in networking and systems administration.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot complex network issues.
- Experience with VPNs, IPS, and security technologies.
- Ability to plan and discuss application architecture with technical and business teams.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills for handling multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Must be eligible to obtain a Top Secret (TS) security clearance.
