Stipend:  $660.00/week (+Education Award) 

Term:  18 weeks 

Reports To:  US Forest Service, Dolores Ranger District

Location:  Dolores, CO 81323

Status:  675-hour AmeriCorps Service Term 

Benefits:  AmeriCorps Education Award $2,417.14 after successful completion

It is the mission of the Southwest Conservation Corps to empower individuals to positively impact their lives, their communities, and the environment. 


Program Description: 

Join the Southwest Conservation Corps’ intern team and help the US Forest Service carry out its mission of "caring for the land and serving people"!


The Forest Service mission is caring for the land and serving the people. The Dolores Ranger Districts Trails program is responsible for delivering public benefits by maintaining trail infrastructure on the Dolore Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest. This individual will focus on the maintenance and improvement of the local trail system as well as the developed recreation sites.


Essential functions and responsibilities include:


  • Engage in trail maintenance activities
  • Work in challenging terrain and weather
  • Work in a safe and professional manner



Housing: Forest Service housing is available for this position.


General Qualifications:  


This position requires individual to lift more than 25 pounds, hike up to 6 miles a day in challenging terrain and weather conditions. The individual should be able to work safely and effectively with a crew, follow crew boss directions as well as be independently prepared each day to work in a physically demanding position. Prior to starting this position, a government security background clearance will be required.




  • 18 year or older

  • U.S. Citizenship
    • Permanent Resident Card, INS form I-551
    • Alien Registration Card, INS form I-551
    • A passport indicating that the INS has approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence
    • A departure record ( INS 194) indication that the INS has approved it as temporary evidence of lawful admission for permanent residence
  • Driver's License
