Strategic Communications Fellow

 

 

Position Details:

Stewards Individual Placement Program (SIPP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIPP in partnership with the Washington Office of Communications are seeking an intern who will support development and delivery of communications tools for use by NPS communicators and partners, including strategic campaign tools and materials, communications kits, internal and external websites, direct-to-audience communications, and webinars.

 

Position Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist with day-to-day communication duties such as drafting communications messages, talking points, and other communications materials
  • Research, develop, and assist with implementation of strategic communications plans and strategies for initiatives
  • Create strategic communications plans to support organization and programmatic goals
  • Collaborate with other NPS offices on brand management, intellectual property, copyright
  • Collaborate with other NPS offices and partners on partnership communications efforts
  • Craft talking points and messaging with identified audiences in mind
  • Write clear and compelling documents by assigned deadlines
  • Write stories about park events, initiatives, projects, etc.
  • Create communications guidance and toolkits for parks, NPS program staff, and partners
  • Develop and produce public facing communications products
  • Work with parks to create communications products highlighting projects that improve infrastructure and protect natural resources
  • Draft web content on park projects
  • Work with national parks to create digital press kits
  • Research park facts and frequently asked questions

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Public speaking skills and the ability to engage and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with a diverse public, students, user groups, and agency staff in a professional manner.
  • Interest in education and interpretation
  • Computer skills
  • A current valid driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications or related field
  • 18-30 years of age, maximum 35 years old for Veterans with valid DD-214
  • US citizen or legal resident
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 by the first day of employment and ability to provide proof of vaccination before starting
