Write and edit technical manuals, software requirement specifications, software design descriptions, briefings, and operating procedures, as well as technical and administrative publications on processes and procedures.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential functions)

  • Follow established procedures and formats (templates) that comply with Navy and DoD style guides and standards and research and compile technical data for use in documents such as manuals, procedures, and specifications.*
  • Develop, write, and edit technical documentation such as software requirement specifications, software user manuals, quick-reference guides, software design descriptions, interface control documents, software test plans, and processes and procedures using Microsoft Office and Adobe products and specialized tools such as IBM DOORS.*
  • Use engineering specifications, mockups, and tactical data link programs to develop requirements and technical documents.*
  • Coordinate with technical teams/SMEs to become familiar with products and technologies to produce technical documents.*
  • Organize material and complete writing assignments according to DoD and Navy standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.*
  • Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, and content.*
  • Perform data entry, modification, and retrieval in database applications to support software requirement development and maintenance.*
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions.*
  • Perform peer reviews of technical documents.*

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance at the SECRET level is required
  • Working knowledge of desktop applications including Microsoft Word and Excel required
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience documenting military systems, including Tactical Data Links
  • Familiarity with Military Standards
  • Experience writing user manuals and requirements documents
