General Summary

COLSA Corporation is seeking passionate, tech-savvy candidates for summer intern positions within our Data Science team in Huntsville, Alabama.  You will support COLSA's Data Analytics and Computing Sciences Lab and will work with the latest hardware and software technologies and our enthusiastic team of data science and machine learning experts to build advanced capabilities, conduct research and development, and develop solutions to our customers most complex and challenging problems.  This is not a remote opportunity. 

· Assists with a wide range of duties in Data Science *

· Assists with creation and analysis of routine projects, programs, and/or policies and procedures *

· Performs assigned intern projects and follows them to completion *

· Supports more experienced personnel *

Required Experience

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a graduate degree in a STEM field, preferably Mathematics, Physics, Applied Statistics, Computer Science, or Engineering. 
  • Due to facility DoD security requirements, candidates must possess U.S. Citizenship. Must be able to pass criminal background check. 
  • Must be willing and able to relocate to Huntsville, AL at his/her own expense for duration of internship. This is not a remote opportunity. 
  • Coursework, prior internships, and/or major projects that demonstrate practical and academic experience with advanced machine learning and data science techniques and mathematical approaches. (Please list these on your resume and/or cover letter. Please include any portfolio of work you have such as a link to your GitHub repository.) 
  • Experience with algorithm development and data structures in common programming languages (e.g., Python, C#, Julia) and tools (e.g., Jupyter Notebooks, TensorFlow, Keras). 
  • Comfortable working in a Linux environment. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.  

Preferred Qualifications

Please list and describe any of the below qualifications you possess on your resume and/or cover letter. 

  • Demonstrated drive, initiative, and leadership through academic or professional organization(s).
  • Related experience--professionally or academically--on data science projects.
  • Experience with packaging applications in Docker and hosting containers in registries such as Kubernetes. 
  • Experience, projects, or coursework in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and other Modeling and Simulation and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and frameworks. 
  • Experience, projects, or coursework using Natural Language Processing. Education or experience in linguistics is a plus. 
  • Experience, projects, or coursework in Digital Signals Processing. 
  • Experience, projects, or coursework conducting Test and Evaluation of systems with non-deterministic components. 
  • Experience in Large Language Models (LLMs) with either Retrieval Augmentation Generation (RAG) or fine-tuning. 
  • Advanced Applied Mathematics experience in areas such as Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra, and Partial Differential Equations.  
  • Possess a deep understanding of the mathematical concepts behind Artificial Neural Networks and know how to tailor activation functions, loss functions, and network layers, beyond the use of basic Machine Learning (ML) libraries. 
  • Familiarity with DevOps principles, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile methodologies. 
  • Experience with data engineering, web scraping, reinforcement learning/Q Learning, Graph Databases, or autonomous systems.
