Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential functions)
- Performs complex technical support of local, metropolitan and wide area networks and cloud-based networks to include planning, designing, evaluating, and selecting operating solutions.
- Support the day-to-day technical operations of the AvMC CIO/G6. Non-routine after hours support may be required (24x7x365) to support network maintenance, emergency operations, or unique mission requirements.
- Provide support during off duty hours as needed to keep the network operational and perform maintenance/configuration changes in order to minimize workforce impact during normal duty hours.
- Perform maintenance of system infrastructure to include defined regularly scheduled maintenance times for updates, patches, and migration of systems. Maintenance includes hardware preventative maintenance, hardware and wiring replacements and relocations, configuration management duties, and records updates.
- Perform analysis and documentation of as-built cabling infrastructure to include database updates, labeling and diagrams. Create, update and maintain equipment rack elevation drawings to support maintenance activities and accreditation requirements.
- Develop plans, with roll back options, for upgrades, installations, replacements and migrations of AvMC systems and wiring infrastructure.
- Install, configure, and maintain local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network equipment, cabling, and infrastructure devices including, but not limited to, routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and physical servers.
- Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems.
- May assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.
- Maintain the existing fiber optic and copper cabling infrastructure, including fiber path diagrams and fiber labeling that physically transport telecommunications signals. Existing/anticipated infrastructure includes but is not limited to: wires, cables, fiber optics, conduits, patch panels, patch cables, transceivers, and media converters.
- Expand and modify this physical infrastructure as approved by the CIO/G6.
- Provide analysis, expertise, and recommendations for any additional changes, modifications, new installations, or improvements to networking infrastructure.
- Work with other government or commercial entities and network service providers to connect, maintain, and document all local and wide-area network connections and network distribution systems used by the AvMC Enterprise. This requirement shall include workstation, server, telephone, Video Teleconferencing (VTC), cable television, and any other digital distribution systems used by the AvMC Enterprise.

Required Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with fiber optic cable installation, termination and maintenance is required
- Must be able to work from schematics, diagrams, written/verbal descriptions or from defined plan
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance; U.S. Citizenship required
- This position is located on-site in Huntsville, AL
Preferred Qualifications
- Active DoD SECRET security clearance is preferred.
- Experience with the design, installation and maintenance of fiber optic and copper data cabling infrastructures is preferred.
- Experience in designing, installing and maintaining EIA/TIA 568A/B cabling infrastructure is preferred.
- Experience with fiber optic cable termination using fusion splicing equipment and ST, SC and LC fiber optic connectors is preferred.
- Experience in data center design, rack layout, electrical requirements and cooling requirements is preferred.
- Two years electronics training from a technical trade school or military technical school preferred
