The purpose of this position is to provide daily oversight and supervision of a line of service for solid waste operations provide and oversee solid waste personnel while providing a high level of customer service.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Investigates and confirms City staff’s collection service deliveries.
  • Plans, initiates and monitors City staff’s daily activities.
  • Plans and monitors the effectiveness of business recycling programs.
  • Observes, documents, and evaluates City staff performance.
  • Operates equipment in support of daily collection activities as needed for continuity of service schedules
  • Oversees and executes customer service activities and initiatives.

Supplemental Functions:

  • Performs other similar duties as required.

 

Job Specifications and Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Operating heavy equipment and hand and power tools
  • Solid waste and recycling collection principles and practices
  • Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations
  • Budgetary principles

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License;
  • CPR and First Aid Certified.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

 

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards.

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalency, with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in Solid Waste & Recycling and demonstrated leadership experience in the form of Supervisor, Team Lead or Crew Leader; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
