The purpose of this position is to research, compile, verify and prepare documents and assist clients with understanding agency resources and availability of programs.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and conducts annual client reexaminations, bi-annual inspections and maintains required files.
  • Explains policies, procedures, guidelines, information packets, and address client’s questions.
  • Accepts, processes, and reviews applications for participation in housing programs; maintains required client files.
  • Assists the public, in person and over the phone, with routine inquiries regarding housing programs and referring them to agencies that can assist.
  • Schedules emergency pest control.
  • Prepares and sends required correspondence such as post-rent, rent statements, and late rent notices.
  • Updates a variety of information in program databases, including contractor and participant information.
  • Assists clients in completing applications and/or forms.
  • Prepares a variety of activity reports for submittal to Federal and State agencies, interdepartmental staff, management, and/or other applicable parties.
  • Assists with the lease up process and vacated procedures for Public Housing residents.

 

Supplemental Functions:

  • Performs other similar duties as required.

 

Job Specifications and Qualifications:

 

Knowledge:

  • Modern office procedures;
  • Customer service principles;
  • Applicable Federal, State, & Local laws, guidelines, requirements, policies, & procedures;
  • Basic loan & escrow procedures;
  • Report writing techniques;
  • Principles & practices of public social services agencies.

 

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Assisted Housing Manager Certification (AHM);
  • Basic Occupancy Certification;
  • Rent Calculation Certification;
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License.

PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

 

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, physical hazards.

  • Applying & communicating applicable laws, guidelines, requirements, policies, & procedures;

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information & to receive work direction.

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalency and at least six-months of advanced study, with at least one (1) year of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
