The purpose of this position is to perform general maintenance and service of the airport on equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains vehicles by conducting daily inspections, performing routine maintenance, changing filters and fluids, alternators, belts, starters, batteries, PTO’s, drive shafts, power steering pumps, wheel bearings, tires, wiper blades, and spark plugs on all motor vehicles, ground equipment, and landscaping equipment.
- Maintains records and logs for vehicles and equipment which include: material requisition orders, purchase orders, material used, and time spent on each job.
- Performs airfield maintenance such as changing bulbs, transformers, wiring connections, circuit boards, fuses, directional, and obstruction lights, conducting tiedown rope/anchor inspections, painting and striping, and snow removal on all taxiways, runway, and safety areas.
- Performs building maintenance such as changing light bulbs, building drywalls, painting, and other remodeling projects, and completing daily janitorial duties of cleaning the floors, walls, and bathrooms in all city owned buildings and hangars at the airport.
- Cleaning ramp and tiedown areas.
Supplemental Functions:
Performs other similar duties as required.
Job Specifications and Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Building maintenance principles and practices
- Airfield maintenance principles and practices
- Vehicle and equipment maintenance principles and practices
- Mechanical principles and practices
- Cleaning procedures and practices.
Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License
- Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License preferred

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Positions in this class require: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
- Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, and intense noises.

Required Experience
High school diploma or equivalency, with at least one (1) year of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
