The purpose of this position is to provide logistics and maintenance of city issued garbage and recycling carts to the Solid Waste Services department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Performs regular maintenance and repairs to carts.
Ø Delivers carts to new locations and retrieves carts when needed.
Ø Reassembles damaged carts using parts from inventory to ensure the cart can be redeployed.
Ø Executes cart scanning of RFID chips in the field (with assistance from Yard Waste Division during slow seasons).
Ø Coordinates pickup by Envirovision for recycling of all damaged carts.
Ø Retrieves work orders from office admin, organizes work orders to minimize travel and time in the field.
Ø Maintains & manages location of carts in the field.
Ø Conducts inventories of carts and supplies (e.g. lids and wheels).
Ø Maintains data on damaged carts and pursues reimbursement for eligible carts.
Ø Investigates claims of damaged carts in conjunction with Waste Pro to determine cause and/or responsibility of damages.
Ø Collects and disposes animal carcasses from roadways and/or curbs.
Supplemental Functions:
Ø Performs other similar duties as required.

Licensing and Certifications:
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
- Positions in this class require: Standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.
- Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.
- Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, physical hazards, mechanical hazards, communicable disease & physical danger or abuse.

- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Required Experience
High school diploma or equivalency, with at least one (1) year of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
