The purpose of this position is to supervise, plan, coordinate, and evaluate all operations of the John F. McInnis Aquatic Facility. This is primarily accomplished by supervising staff, reviewing schedules, inventorying, and providing customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Supervises staff by planning work schedules, prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. Reviews daily, weekly, and biweekly schedules for swim lessons, groups, and the public. Performs daily equipment checks, inventories equipment and supplies and orders needed materials. Plans and conducts safety and emergency procedures in-service. Conveys City of Concord policies to staff and patrons to defend the integrity of the aquatic program. Provides customer service by answering inquiries and complaints, scheduling staff for group parties and individual swim lessons, conveying inclement weather closings, and reporting any patron or community issues that need to be addressed.

Supplemental Functions: Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications: Knowledge of Aquatic life saving techniques; Management principles; Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations; Employee relations principles and practices; Budgetary principles. Skills in Monitoring and evaluating employees; Prioritizing and assigning work; Operating a computer and related software applications; Conducting investigations; Developing and administering budgets; Analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions, and implementing recommendations in support of goals; Responding to changing situations and needs; Handling multiple tasks simultaneously; Developing training programs; Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

 

Preferred Licensing and Certifications: Valid North Carolina Driver’s License; American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or equivalent; CPR/First Aid Certification. PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must meet the City criteria for an acceptable driving record.

 

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements: Positions in this class typically require: kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Required Experience

High school diploma or equivalency, with over five years up to and including seven years of experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
