The purpose of this position is to coordinate the development, implementation, and assessment of programs held in Centers, Parks, or other sites around the city.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates transportation, facilities, dates, fees, registration.
  • Volunteers, and/or sponsors for a variety of events, trips, classes.
  • Supervises part-time and contract employees by prioritizing and assigning work, , ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Assists Parks & Recreation department with researching , developing and implementing new programs and activities as part of the program team.
  • Assists with payroll for contract employees by collecting time sheets, completing necessary forms, and submitting documents on time.
  • Assists with marketing of programs and activities.

 Supplemental Functions:

Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications:


  • Ability to learn programming activities principles and practices
  • Budget practices and processes
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to learn project management principles

Licensing and Certifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification. Failure to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within 12 months from hire date may result in termination.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Position requires: standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, pushing/pulling, vision, hearing, twisting, and talking.
  • Medium Work: Exerting 20 - 50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness and/or humidity, and respiratory hazards.

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Required Experience

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with at least one year of experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
