Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity 

This is a key role within Chorus’ Financial Control team, supporting the financial performance of the business through the delivery of high-quality financial results, insightful reporting, and strong governance. As Senior Financial Accountant, you’ll lead the monthly consolidation process and drive the half-year and annual reporting cycles, including managing the external audit process.

With a focus on technical accounting, you’ll ensure compliance with NZ IFRS, NZX, and FMA requirements, while continuously improving finance systems and internal controls. You’ll work closely with senior leaders, auditors, and cross-functional teams to deliver accurate, timely, and meaningful financial insights that support decision-making and strategic planning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the preparation and consolidation of monthly financial results and statutory reporting.
  • Managing the external audit process and preparing audit-quality technical accounting papers.
  • Providing technical accounting guidance across the finance function.
  • Monitoring and improving internal financial controls and risk mitigation processes.
  • Supporting the optimisation and use of finance systems including SAP, Blackline, and G-Treasury.
  • Delivering insightful financial analysis to support executive and board-level reporting.

Ō Wheako, ō Pūkenga | Your Experience 

  • CA qualification and proven performance in a senior accounting role, ideally within a listed or regulated environment.
  • Strong technical accounting skills, with a deep understanding of NZ IFRS, audit processes, and financial governance.
  • Experience leading statutory reporting and monthly consolidation processes, including preparation of audit-quality analysis and financial statements.
  • Familiarity with finance systems such as SAP, Blackline, G-Treasury, and Tableau - and a passion for improving and automating financial processes.

You’ll bring excellent communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, insightful advice to finance managers and senior stakeholders. Your collaborative mindset will enable you to work effectively across teams to deliver high-quality outcomes, while your proactive approach to internal controls, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement will help strengthen Chorus’ financial governance. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, complex environment.
