Reporting to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, the Director of the Library and Academic Resource Center (LARC) provides strategic vision and leadership, working effectively with faculty and staff as an advocate for the library and is responsible for the oversight and management of college library services, ensuring that Central Wyoming College students and community members have access to quality resources, technology, and instruction in an academic commons learning environment while fostering collaboration among all members of the LARC team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for all aspects of library administration, including long-term planning, budget development and control, community and public relations, personnel selection, facilities management, effective stewardship, and ongoing assessment of library resources; coordinating library exhibits, programming and community outreach activities; advertising library services and resources and soliciting feedback; marketing the library through social media, flyers, and the library website.
2. Personnel supervision and oversee operations for three internal departments; supervises department operations to ensure compliance with campus policies, procedures, and defined internal controls; ensures accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with CWC standards and procedures.
3. In collaboration with other departments, promotes a campus culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence and student learning; fosters an organizational culture of collegiality and service within the library and on campus and cultivates partnerships with other CWC departments
4. Manages the Circulation and Help Desk Operations: oversees library patron service operations and responsibilities of the service desks and provides assistance in person, by phone, and email; monitors, manages, and resolves helpdesk support requests from the CWC ticketing system.
5. Recruits, supervises, trains, and schedules student employees; resolves problems and retrains as needed; identifies library tasks and supervises work activity assignments; coordinates student projects given by other library staff.
6. Provides information literacy and library instruction, orientation, and training to faculty, students and staff in-person and virtually, on library services, website navigation and outreach services to other departments & campuses, (ex: Ask-A-Librarian with TRIO); responds to reference queries submitted via email, phone, or chat in a timely manner.
7. Provides direction for the integration of appropriate and emerging technologies into the services and operation of the library; fosters forward-looking collection development and preservation plans; and develops library initiatives that enhance student learning.
8. Serves on campus committees and acts as the LARC liaison to senior college administrators, represents the LARC on the Academic Affairs Council
9. Maintains and strengthens collaborative efforts with consortia and other resource sharing groups
10. Articulates the role of the LARC in meeting the changing needs of students, faculty, and staff, and uses advisory groups of students and faculty to inform planning and decision-making
11. Manages and presents library statistics to administration; compiling them for national statistical reports.
12. Collaborates with faculty in collection management related to their subject areas and establishes acquisition, management, and weeding policies and procedures based on faculty and program needs and professional recommendations.
13. Performs other reasonably related duties as directed or assigned.
14. Operates within the framework established by CWC’s policies, procedures, and practices and ensures that all activities are conducted within the established College policies, FERPA guidelines, and other applicable laws.
- Master’s degree in directly related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning recognized by the US Department of Education.
- Four years of directly related experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Supervisory experience.

16. Knowledge of and skill in use of computers and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and library databases.

This position operates under the general direction of the Vice President for Academic

● Equipment Used
- Work is performed using standard office equipment, computers, software, telephone, step stools, microform reader, paper cutter, laminator, printer/copier, and scanner.
● Physical Requirements
- Mostly sedentary or light work requiring sitting, walking and standing frequently. Occasional medium work requires exertion of up to 50 pounds of force pushing, or pulling resources on library carts. Also required: stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and seeing.
● Environmental Conditions
- Work is performed in a general office setting. Travel is required and evening and/or weekend work may also be required.
