Planetarium Show Presenter (Part-Time)

This is a part-time, 24 to 30 hours per month position. This position is responsible for the presentation of planetarium programs to public audiences. The position requires evening (Tuesdays and Fridays) and weekend work (Saturdays and the occasional Sunday) and varies by season. Cover letter addressing applicable skills and experiences pertinent to this position required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This candidate will be responsible for the presentation of public planetarium shows. Duties include:
- Preparing the theater for show presentation: turning on equipment, loading computer programs, performing pre-show checkout routines.
- Admission of audiences/ticket collection.
- Presentation of pre-programmed and live shows.
- Answering audience questions/inquiries after presentations.
- Turning the theater around quickly for the next show.
- Performing shut down of the theater upon completion of the day’s last show.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE & SPECIFIC SKILLS
This candidate will exhibit a general knowledge of science, astronomy preferred but not required, and the scientific method. Familiarity and comfort working with computers and electronic equipment required. Ability to work without direct supervision, but within a framework of set expectations, required. Ability to work well with other museum staff and accept direction from full time staff person on duty.
This candidate must have excellent public speaking skills and be comfortable making presentations to groups of varying sizes (up to 144 individuals) and ages. An outgoing and upbeat personality is an asset.
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS
The position requires evening (Tuesdays and Fridays) and weekend work (Saturdays and the occasional Sunday) and varies by season.
Candidates must be able to traverse stairs and must be willing and able to work in darkened conditions. Otherwise, working conditions are normal.
