The Culinary Arts Lab Assistant will work closely with the culinary team to ensure smooth operation of the culinary lab.  A Lab Assistant provides technical and subject area assistance to faculty and students. A Lab Assistant must be able to interact with students in the classroom and lab environment in support of faculty to accomplish established outcomes for course and program.

 

The successful candidate will assist in preparing ingredients, testing recipes, maintaining cleanliness and organization in the lab, and assisting in other tasks as needed.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

 Support instruction for the program as follows:

 

  • Help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the culinary lab and classroom.
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down equipment and materials for each class.
  • Assist the culinary instructors in preparing ingredients for classroom instruction and practical exercises.
  • Assist in preparing food for classroom events and demonstrations.
  • Assist in in ordering and managing inventory of ingredients and equipment.
  • Keep detailed records of recipe testing and results.
  • Help develop and document new recipes for classroom use.
  • Monitor student progress, safety, and sanitation during practical exercises.
  • Assist students as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Communicate effectively with department personnel.
  • Be organized in scheduling and completing a list of tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the culinary instructors.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Associate of Applied Science degree in a related field or equivalent work experience to be determined.
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Industry experience in related occupation
  • Current ServSafe Manager certification
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer literacy and be technologically competent
  • Patience and interest in student and program success

 

Desired Skills and Abilities

 

  • Experience in a Culinary Lab.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products, including, but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience with online learning platforms, such as Canvas.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

 

  • Work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Lifting may be required up to 50 lbs.
