Under the direction and supervision of the Area Agency on Aging Director, the AAA Adult Protective Services Supervisor manages all aspects of the APS program operation. The AP Supervisor performs APS investigation duties and supervises APS personnel in investigating reports of alleged abuse, neglect, self-neglect, exploitation, and abandonment of vulnerable adults 18 years of age and older. The APS Supervisor is responsible for providing orientation and training to AAA staff responsible for performing assessments and intakes for Adult Protective Services and is responsible for all data entry, investigations, and reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This list includes, but is not limited to the following:
- Supervises all staff assigned to the AAA Adult Protective Services program.
- Oversees job functions of AAA staff as job duties relate to Adult Protective Services intake, investigation, and report administration within GetCare, ICOA, and the Idaho Criminal History Unit.
- Participates in hiring, evaluating, and terminating Adult Protective Services personnel.
- Provides and/or arranges for orientation, training, and continuing education for AAA staff as job duties relate to Adult Protective Services.
- Mentors the orientation, training and supervision of any AAA student interns who select AAA/CSI as their internship site, as it relates to APS.
- Responsible for compliance with required elements of program contracts, policies, reports, and protocols.
- Assesses referrals, investigates, and assists staff with prioritization of work.
- Coordinates and develops multi-agency task forces, staffing and/or service networks, when appropriate.
- Provides regular community education to increase the public awareness of APS concerns.
- Works cooperatively with AAA direct service staff.
- Compiles and maintains required GetCare procedure and files per contract requirements and Idaho statute.
- Investigate Adult Protective Services referrals including interviewing potential victims, documenting investigation activities, completing comprehensive assessments, developing a supportive service plan and following-up on cases.
- Advocates for clients by providing information, guidance and support to the individual, caregiver, and family member(s) to reduce risk of future victimization.
- Coaches and empowers clients and their families to access services that are least restrictive to personal freedom and ensure maximum independence of individuals serviced.
- Appear in court hearings or proceedings as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / TRAINING PREFERRED/REQUIRED
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To meet the education and experience requirements, at least one of the following criteria must be met:
- Must hold a valid Idaho social worker license; and/or
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in a human services field or closely related field of study and at least two (2) years of experience in direct service delivery to vulnerable adults; and/or
- Must have an associate degree and at least two (2) years of experience in law enforcement.
- Demonstrated effective organizational and supervisory skills.
- Ability to interpret and implement Federal/State/College regulations.
- Familiarity with grants including goals, required performance and fiscal compliance.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background check.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of liability insurance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must be able to work with and encourage aging people.
- Knowledge of applicable social service resources
- Knowledge of moderate computer skills to include Microsoft office
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
- Strong presentation skills
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate notes, reports, investigative records
- Ability to use independent judgment and to manage confidential information
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally
- Ability to plan procedures and prioritize work
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including phone, copier
WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS
The position of the Adult Protective Services Supervisor oversees the provision of Adult Protective Services in the eight counties of South-Central Idaho. The APS Supervisor may occasionally respond to APS calls outside of the PSA as directed by the AAA Director and/or the ICOA.
Office environment, on-site visitation to private residences, licensed facilities, etc. Work hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
